We're planting trees and using woodlands to make life better for people and wildlife in the Forest of Marston Vale, which covers 61 square miles between Bedford and Milton Keynes, and looked very different 30 years ago. Tree cover was a pitiful 3% - a third of the national average at the time.
To help the area recover, the Government designated the area as a Community Forest - one of 13 in the UK. The idea was that planting trees and using woodlands would make life better for people, and wildlife. We’re working towards 30% tree cover, which is another 5 million trees.
The Forest Centre and Millennium Country Park is home to 225 hectares of woodlands, our visitor reception team, a café, gift shop, toilet facilities and rooms for hire.
