Stumbled across the Anchor after a walk along the Severn. Beautiful, traditional old pub with great food in a beautiful villageWe sat in the bar because we had a very muddy dog and muddy feet. Food was great , burger was delicious as was the pie. The garden is also lovely but it was a bit cold to sit outside today Would definitely recommend and will be returning.

We are staying in Thornbury for a couple of days and decided to re-visit The Anchor Inn in nearby Oldbury on Severn. What a delightful country village pub it is, from the log fire burning huge logs to the smiling bar staff and range of draught beers. I chose the Fish Pie and my husband the Lambs Liver and Bacon, both of which were excellent. Thank you for a most enjoyable visit.

Stayed here previously and was very happy, but it has really gone down hill, my room is so noisy, a constant noise in the room from refrigerators or similar. No sleep! Breakfast choice in room has also reduced.

What pub these days don?t allow dogs and children in for food and beers on a Saturday when the pub is quarter full. Rude staff to boot. The 7 of us went into Thornbury and spent £150 on a meal and beers. Good luck to you as a business, clearly stuck in the 70?s still.

Until about five years ago, my husband and I lived in the area for some forty years and never had a bad meal at the Anchor. It was a must to visit on our trip down Memory Lane. What a disappointment! Beef curry was more like a watery beef stew with a spoonful of curry powder added at the last minute. We were glad of the generous pot of mango chutney to give it some flavour. We didn?t risk desserts. The young waitress seemed surprised at our answer when she asked us if everything was alright with our meal. She murmured ?oh sorry? and that was it. Beer and wine were fine.

Have visited twice for a light lunch & have been disappointed both times. The starter pate with piccalilli had a very small amount of ciabatta toast, not enough for the portion of pate. A basket of bread & butter was needed in addition to the ciabatta toast. I should have learnt my lesson from ordering this starter previously. But I do enjoy pate but this recent time the underside of the pate was much darker than the rest, so it was probably the dried end piece. In my opinion this starter is not good value. No Guinness sold here. Although we frequent local pubs regularly for lunch we will not be returning.

Very poor meals served. Buttered chicken curry, luke warm and completely lacking in flavour. This was just chicken with curry sauce poured over. Second meal was Described as ?chicken in lemon and herb? but again no flavour and cold. Very sad as this used to be one of our favourite places to eat.

ordered food no problem but when it came to drinks of the five staff only one was allowed to do drinks and waited 15 minutes.

Food was lovely but I have to say the staff need to know their craft! When I asked the waiting staff what the seasonal veg were I was reluctantly told " oh, peas, broccoli, cauliflower oh and carrot I think" .. she wasn't sure and didn't go and check but stood talking to the otherstsff who were looking over at me as though I'd asked some weird question.(there never were any peas).Although the large sign outside stated that it was a Theakston pub when we asked for Old Peculiar the girls hadn't a clue. Evidently they were not a Theakston pub and had never heard of this ale! Caused some hilarity.
