Great staff, actually seem to know what they are talking about and are very willing to help. The showroom is nicely laid out with everything on display.I have purchased a few Aminster branded power tools, and in my experience, they have been good quality tools for hobbyists. I wouldn't expect it to put up with everyday use in a professional shop, but that is not the market they are aimed at.

By far the the best UK business for high quality carpentry tools. Truly magnificent, huge store with great layout. Plenty of Veritas saws from Canada and Kirschen chisels from Germany. Lots of supplies for routing, planing, turning, and any other way of manipulating wood that exists. Dust extraxtors and very large table saws are also on offer. If you enjoy carpentry and woodworking, simply forget what companies like Screwfix or Toolstation offer in this respect and head straight here.

Unfortunately, nowadays, nothing is UK-made, including Axminster Tools. We all look for Chinese replacements and want to support our manufacturers, but ordering right from China is simpler as everything ends up produced there with extra UK charges. We ordered a milling machine that costs between £600 - 700, but when I wanted to replace an engine, which didn't last long, I was charged £630 just for the part. The part's origin is China, so what is British-made except for the profit generated?I would be okay with having Chinese-made, but the company positions itself as British-made, and besides, it can't even supply spare parts for a reasonable price. When we ordered something from China, we at least had the parts replaced for an affordable price.

Excellent experience today I'd just bought a woodturning lathe and with it comes a two hour session to introduce you to how to use it. Extremely competent instructor taking you through everything you need to get started. The tools you need, how to sharpen them and what they are for and how to use them. If you've not used a lathe before like me and want one these two hours are well worth their weight. I feel confident to go it alone now. Look what I made (partly).I'd recommend this to anyone starting out.
