“Rooms are recently refurbished and very well appointed and staff all very friendly and helpful. Space to park the car and easy bus service to the centre of Cambridge or a 15 minute walk. We stayed with friends taking four rooms and all were happy.”

“Zane, our Bentley driver, was outstanding. Friendly and informative, he customized our tour to our interests. Out of a two-week trip to England, our Bentley tour with Zane was one of the highlights. We would definitely recommend the Gonville Hotel to family and friends, thanks to Zane.”

“Super soft beds, great breakfast food, nice quiet bar for evening cocktails. Only a minute walk from Cambridge station and about 10 min walk to the town with a lot of places to eat and drink along the way. Would definitely come back.”

“We stayed at the Varsity on a Saturday evening in September and had a great stay. We wanted to have brunch and a few drinks before checking in and so we dropped our bags at the hotel before heading into the city centre which was a short walk away. Csilla at reception was lovely and couldn’t have been more helpful. After brunch (we had the bottomless brunch at Browns which I would recommend) we went punting on the river Camb - the place where you embark/disembark is a short walk from the hotel and the punter was very entertaining giving us lots of interesting and fun information about the universities and buildings and the people who attended them. When we arrived back at the hotel later on to check in we were told that we had been given a room upgrade which was a nice surprise and the room was perfect - I loved that the room key was a proper key and not a plastic card (so often they don’t work for me and then you have to traipse back down to reception to get it reprogrammed). We headed to the rooftop bar to enjoy the views over a drink before dinner and the service there was excellent. On the Sunday we wanted to have a walk around Jesus Green and Midsommer Common so we checked out, leaving our bags with reception to pick up later on. All in all we had a really great stay at the Varsity hotel and will definitely be back again.”

“I spent two nights at this hotel with my partner a few weeks ago. The location is unbeatable, right in the middle of Cambridge, and you can walk to pretty much all the sights from there. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Decor was understated, but I didn’t mind that. There were lots of drawers to store things, which was handy. Our room was on the fourth floor and facing west, which meant that it was particularly quiet, even if the view wasn’t very interesting. Please note that the rooms don’t seem to have fridges. The bathroom was clean, but it was definitely on the small side.We received good service - we were offered prosecco when we checked in (early, at no extra fee), and reception printed a document for me without any fuss. The hotel’s luggage holding service is also very handy after check out.All in all, I would recommend this hotel for its location, cleanliness, and service. I would just say that the hotel looks slightly dated inside, especially for a 4-star hotel and at this price point.”

“Fantastic modern large hotel, good amenities, bar/restaurant. Bus service 8A direct to the city center and back every half hour from just across the road from the hotel.Tesco /pizza shop just a block away easy pleasant walk away.Loads of parking, entrance from both front and back of hotel.Quiet location in a residential area. We only had 2 issues.(1) no decent wardrobe/hanging space) (2) the shower was poor, luke warm couldn't turn to hot(although basin had hot water) and the pressure was poor(like someone was pouring from a watering can).We were in room 306 on the third floor.perhaps that was why the pressure was poor? The staff were wonderful pleasant/polite. We would def recommend and would go again.”

“I cannot believe this is only a two star hotel. The rooms are clean, shower hot, breakfast delicious, and the location is great. Being able to keep a parked car here is awesome too. I would come back here for sure. The only thing was my husband had some egg shells in his breakfast.”

“Ideally situated for the city and in My case IWM Duxford once you have negotiated the pot-holes in the free car-park this was a really lovely place to stay overnight. The staff were very attentive, allocating me to a very cool quiet room at the back of the site and if it got too hot I had a fan to cool Me down. The bed was very comfy and the shower had enough pressure , which isn't always the case.”

“A beautiful hotel in lovely grounds. Very close to Cambridge, but far enough out to be peaceful. Some friends and I stayed here for two nights on my birthday weekend. We booked afternoon tea on the Friday, we all had massages and used the pool and spa. We also ate in the restaurant (The Water Wheel) on the Saturday night and the food and service was all excellent. All the staff were friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. A special shout out to Peter who was working in the bar. Really friendly and chatty.”

“For a 2 star place it good.Nice and clean enough rooms. No food and breakfast is a bag with items. But they tell you so no problem. For me the matrasses were a bit to hard for comfort. But as said. For a 2 star hotel it's good”

“As far as travelodges go this is one of the better ones we have visited. The rooms are to a good standard (although there was a dirty towel from a previous occupant left behind the bathroom door). The location is excellent as it has local amenities and if a 15 minute walk from the town.We tried the buffet breakfast in the morning and it was a little disappointing. For the same money you can get a much higher quality breakfast in the local area”

“Standard travel lodge experience. They have a late bar and reception is nice. Location was a great for us.Parking is an issue if you can’t get in the car park. There is on street parking out front though.”

“I felt welcome from the moment I arrived. I was worn out from a long train trip but the girls at reception made me feel right at home. There was no problem dropping my luggage in early before I went to wonderful Duxford museum. On my return I recieved my key (a real one!) and made my way up to my very quaint old world room with rustic high ceiling and 15th century style interior. It was absolutely charming. I was hoping to meet a ghost or two but was disappointed. There is a lovely old chapel next door for photo ops. Despite the medieval atmosphere, the shower was hot, the coffee was well stocked and the free wifi was strong. I got a very good night's sleep and was thrilled at the view of the morning sun to start a very full day of travelling. Check out was a breeze and I was sorry to go.Rooms: Like living in the Middle Ages again...in a good way...with all the mod cons?Nearby activities: Ten minute bus to IWM Duxford and right next to Whittlesford Parkway Station.”
