“My mum was cared for by the incredible staff at Sue Ryder’s Thorpe Hall Hospice, following a terminal diagnosis last November. She was only given weeks to live by the consultant, which I believe would have been true if she remained in hospital. A little over a week following her prognosis, mum was moved to the hospice, we were welcomed by the incredible Dr Scott who sat mum & I down and explained more about her condition then the consultant and nurses could at the hospital.Mum lived for an incredible 10 weeks from her prognosis and I cannot help but to feel and believe this was solely down to the environment of the hospice, the incredible nature of the IPU team and the importance they put on patient comfortability. Whether it was a cuppa at 11pm or some ice cream at 3am, one press of the button and someone would be in as soon as possible to see what she needs.Mum fought her illness with incredible courage and humility, she never wanted to be a bother, whether it was suffering silently in pain or going hungry because she couldn’t stomach any of the food on the menu, without the amazing volunteer staff members giving their time, mum wouldn’t have started trying to eat again if it wasn’t for a volunteer explaining that the IPU staff would worry more if she wasn’t eating, that night another volunteer did a run to Waitrose to get mum a Margarita Pizza because that’s what she was craving in that moment. The evening mum passed away the hospice team were so compassionate and supportive through it all, providing refreshments, checking on us and mum, allowing a rather large amount of us in, there were over 8 of us there throughout the day and evening and after mum slipped away very peacefully, they cleaned her up and removed all the tubes, wires, etc. so we could pay our respects before we left for the night. The ongoing support and contact with the hospice since mum’s passing has been excellent and they very much feel like a big family there, something they describe their patients as, a part of the Sue Ryder family.I do not have a bad word to say about the hospice, it’s paid staff and volunteers, they are all an incredible bunch of people with outstanding personalities and so much love and care to give to patients and their families. If you do have a loved one at the hospice, if you have any issues or wish to celebrate something, please speak to the ward manager because they are there to help and support your family through the difficult times.”

“Absolutely blown away at the phenomenal caliber and professionalism of all the staff. Staff must love working in a light hearted and peaceful atmosphere, and it shows in how much pride the staff take in organizing the stock. Retail therapy on steroids at very reasonable prices. I've been ill recently and find it hard to communicate and get my words out. The assistant manager really helped me by taking his time with me without being impatient. He offered suggestions which I found unbelievably helpful. I can't recommend this store high enough and it is an absolute pleasure to review this outstanding shop. Keep it up guys ?”

“I am one of the many volunteers at age UK bretton and I just wanted to say how amazing all of the staff and volunteers really are. They all work so hard, are always polite and friendly to everyone, regardless. To say no one thanked you for the donations is a complete fallacy! We are always grateful for any donation. Thankyou.”

“Lovely Staff! Always ready to greet potential customers with friendly chat. The shop is very clean and is nicely laid out. I try to call in a couple of times each week even though this Charity Shop isn't exactly local to me.”
