Always a great meal here, Christmas Eve this year very busy after church service, but staff as always made sure we were served promptly with drinks, food ordered and out in good time and very tasty. Staff always very friendly, and welcoming and take time to have a chat making the experience more personal and inviting. 7 of us dined and all gave 5* for food, quality, environment & service. Well worth a visit.

Surprisingly nice pub. From the outside it's not up to much but it's very nice and cosy inside. Good food and friendly staff but service was very slow, due to it being busy and short staffed. Certainly worth a visit if you are in the area.Vegetarian options: Couple of good options

Tbh I don?t like to give a bad review but.. I have to say I won?t be returning here. The white lion years ago was one of its kind, very popular with the Cheshire set. My partner and I went here today for a set 2 course traditional Xmas lunch. It was disappointing. Nothing bad to say about the staff, they were really good, friendly and helpful. Sadly the pub is now producing run of the mill chain pub food. Nothing home cooked and the xmas dinner we had was eatable but something you could get in a Wetherspoons. Years ago on their blackboard was a choice of fabulous home cooked food, not any more. The setting is perfect, the staff are lovely but sadly this place has gone downhill. The place was nearly empty, years ago it was full to busting. I asked the waitress why so empty? She answered people feeling the money pinch. Sorry guys, this isn?t the case. People have stopped going because of the standard run of the mill pub chain food. They need to get their act together and make it like it used to be. Even if the prices rise?. You get what you pay for.Parking: Parking is ok pub nearly empty

Such a lovely pub. Think it's charged hands so a little quiet. But I can't fault the staff. Food was excellent and they couldn't do enough. On such a last minute visit. Perfect food and drink and Rral open fires what more can you ask. Dog welcome in Bar

The food was ok but was served on freezing cold plates. All six of our meals were sent back to get warm plates, but some of the food wasn?t improved by this process. I asked for cherry pie to warm me up but that arrived cold on a freezing plate. The haddock was lovely. The service again, was ok, but I was sat for thirty minutes before I was asked for my order. A drink on arrival on a freezing cold day would have been lovely. The atmosphere was bleak and cold. We had to ask if anything could be done to warm us up, by putting more logs on the fire. This was done but we were still isolated in the coldest part of the building.

Food was nice staff were really friendly but only gave three stars as their bonfire fireworks were abysmal.

Visited again recently and loved the new menu. We can definitely recommend. Jo and Bexs where really welcoming and definitely a credit to the place. Given it was busy the service was great.

We enjoyed a very tasty Sunday lunch. We both had prawn cocktail and then a small roast each. There was plenty to eat. The roast came with leeks, broccoli, green beans, carrots, mashed potatoes, roast potatoes and Yorkshires. We had one side of pigs in blanket extra. Our food was hot and tasty and the restaurant was clean and attractive. The staff were attentive. Thank you.

First time visitor to the White Lion. What a lovely place to spend time. Ate late afternoon on a weekday evening. Food was great. I'm no foodie so I'm not going to deconstruct the menu. Everyone at our table was more than satisfied and every plate was devoured. We'll be back soon. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Wonderful place to relax and eat. The quality of the food is very high and is excellent value for money. Highly recommended.

Nice place with large terraces and grassed area very close to Helsby/Frodsham. I must say the lower star rating was for time waiting to be served for food and drinks at the bar due to it being a busy evening and one person behind the bar. Service from staff was excellent once served. We ordered gammon/eggs and a steak. Gammon was very nice, steak average, frozen chips. Good selection of lagers and cask/keg ales. Would return as it has a nice interior and spacious gardens to dine in or enjoy a sunny afternoon/evening. Menu has many options for all diets.

14 September:- Called in for lunch mid afternoon as we have done a number of times. Our chosen starter sharing seafood platter was fine, our main course of fish pie was only average with quite gluten mash potato, my main of chicken ham and leek crumble was not overly tasty and not very crumbly atallWe had the distinct feeling that our meal at this visit was really an example of what is happening at many locations, the is a reduction in quality and portions in order to make up for more than any increase in basic costs, and that is lost revenue. The service we experienced was poor in comparison to previous visits, with a young girl waitress in need of proper customer service training. Although our sharing platter was fine, her attitude when she brought it to the table was in an abrupt and cold manner, ' who's is this' only. She also thought nothing of abruptly interupting a private conversation with haste when delivering our mains. I did not say anything at the time because there was no need or wish for us to expect any replacement food, and we do not want to create a possible bad atmosphere, possibly leading to further marring the visit. We will, of course be back at some point to check if today wasan unfortunate hiccup, but remembering today hoping the White Lion has not joined other establishments in making customers think twice. As part of this review I will not make any positive recommendations.Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair friendly

Called for Sunday roast and was disappointed. The wait at the bar to ask for a table took a while, there were no prices for the roast dinners. Once meals had been ordered, food arrived in a reasonable time but no cutlery. No one came to clear away our plates and asked us how our meal was at any point during our visit. The vegetables and roast potatoes were too hard to cut and eat. Waited at the bar to say how our meal was and waited another 15 minutes and there was only a young girl to offer the feedback to. We won't be going again.
