We were lucky to be able to sit outside on a glorious day for Sunday lunch, and we enjoyed a variety of lovely dishes. The Cheese Soufflé starter is a star turn!

Worth the drive for the twice baked cheese soufflé which was to die for. Superb food at a very acceptable price. Beautiful interior with interesting artwork. Friendly professional staff. We will be back and will bring a friend next time.

We were absolutely thrilled with the food, service and venue. Lovely menu. "The best scallops I have had in my life", said my husband. We were also delighted with the mocktails menu. We will definitely be returning.

Nestled amidst the picturesque backdrop of Truro, The Penrose Kitchen is a gastronomic haven where every detail is orchestrated to create an unforgettable dining experience. From the moment my wife and I stepped into this culinary sanctuary, we were swept away by the elegance and sophistication that graced every corner. Our evening began with a libation that set the tone for the culinary journey ahead: expertly crafted martini cocktails moistened our palates as we perused the menu, our anticipation grew, knowing that we were about to embark on a culinary adventure unlike any other. For starters, my wife's choice of twice-baked soufflé was a testament to the chef's artistry. The delicate rise of the soufflé was a prelude to the exquisite flavours that awaited within. My own selection, the scallops accompanied by a bold partner ? black pudding ? was a harmonious pairing of textures and tastes that delighted my senses. As the evening progressed, we were introduced to a refined duet of main courses, which were accompanied with an exquisite Argentinian Malbec, my wife's choice of halibut over a bed of vibrant broccoli showcased the chef's mastery of marrying ingredients with what can only be described as a Zen like balance of flavours. The halibut, tender and succulent, seemed to glide effortlessly across the plate. My own dish, a filet of beef, was a rhapsody of flavours that reverberated with each exquisite bite. The Malbec, proved to be the virtuoso companion to the rich tapestry of flavours that emerged from every mouthful of steak. In the midst of this culinary opus, the service and staff shone as brightly as the cuisine. Attentive, knowledgeable, and discreet, they guided us through this culinary symphony with a grace that elevated the entire experience. The husband and wife team behind The Penrose Kitchen are nothing short of a culinary tour de force, their passion evident in every plate that emerges from their kitchen. As our evening drew to a close, we surrendered to the final movement of our dining experience ? a finale that embraced both indulgence and refinement. A Cointreau liqueur coffee, bold and warming, bid adieu to the main performance, leaving us with a lingering aftertaste of satisfaction and contentment. The Penrose Kitchen is not merely a restaurant; it is an embodiment of gastronomic excellence that transports diners to the echelons of fine dining without the intimidating price tag. For both residents and visitors to Cornwall, this establishment is an invitation to savour Michelin-quality fare in an environment where every detail is curated to perfection.

Lovely restaurant, however food was just warm. Coffee was tepid. For what we paid I would have expected more.

Very sad to be leaving a 1 star review. Have never done so before and fully appreciate how hard hospitality is. I have no problem with charging a fee for customers who don't turn up.We were looking forward to a meal, booked via Opentable. We specifically stated we had a dog so would need to be on the terrace as per restaurant rules.Weather has been dreadful today so thought I had better check at 6pm that they could still honour the booking - I was hoping the terrace might be covered - was told that the booking had been moved indoors and that I couldn't bring the dog. No one had called me to that effect. When I suggested I didn't think it was my job to check with them I was told "There are photos of the terrace on the website" (there aren't).I explained unfortunately that leaving the dog in our rental wasn't possible and sadly we would have to cancel. I have been charged £40 for that. When you think it through, I've actually had £40 taken out of my account for cancelling an indoor table that I never actually booked. What would have happened if the indoor tables were all fully booked? So by all means book this restaurant, the menu looks amazing. But be aware that if the restaurant cannot honour the booking outside, that will be your fault and cost you £40.

First time we have taken lunch here and what a gem of a place it is..... excellent food, service and wines with a beautiful outlook onto the terrace and Lilly water gardens beyond. We will be making this a regular favourite place to eat.

An absolute gem, hidden away off the beaten track. You?ll never ?just be passing? so search them out and go there. It?s the law. A wonderful welcome, which morphed into wonderful service, and just superb food and cooking. This is not a cheap meal but you get what you pay for. £60 a head incl. service for a three course gourmet meal and a glass of wine. It was a lovely warm evening and we took the offer of a table on the deck overlooking the lily ponds. Could have spent the evening eating the just baked, warm homemade bread alone. And paid handsomely for it. Penrose Kitchen is one of those unique slightly quirky eateries that Cornwall does so well. Just fab.

Last minute booking after finding Penrose Kitchen on an internet search. A real hidden gem. Sam made us feel so welcome, Ben's food was delicious and prices very reasonable. Highly recommended.
