If I were asked to describe my perfect pub, The Exeter Arms is as close as it gets! It has a series of cosy rooms with conversation-starting decor. The beer is superb, and the menu is outstanding: everything we ate was tasty and freshly-cooked. Any pub relies on its staff, and the staff at The Exeter are friendly, helpful and welcoming. Highly recommended.Vegetarian options: The vegetarian choices on the menu are well thought-out and tasty. I can recommend the falafel wraps.

What a treat! Fantastic pub just out of the city centre. Great beers on draught. Friendly welcome. Lovely atmosphere. So five stars before you get to the food. And that's also five stars. Good menu with enough range to cater for most tastes, but but silly..Well executed and good value.Flawless from start to end. Highly recommended.

Great selection of beers and wines. Menu consisting of meals from down "memory lane" and the new favourites. The decor enhances a great atmosphere. Love it.

Great pub in an unassuming location. Food was very good, some good takes on more traditional pub food and good portion sizes. Atmosphere inside catered for everyone, a couple different rooms with music over the speakers. Wide drinks selection. Obviously very popular as the majority of tables were booked, but all at differing times so plenty of space to pop in and use the table for an hour or two. Large outdoor space too.

Booked a table here when Portsmouth were playing away at Derby as I love real ale and knew this was a great pub. We received a warm welcome despite being away fans (5 of us) and ordered food. The beer was perfect, service brilliant and good perfect. I?d recommend the 20 mi Ute walk from the train station then 30 to the ground if visiting Derby as an away fan.

A brilliant atmosphere and a warm welcome from the staff await you here, along with real ales and excellent food.

As has been mentioned, this is a rare combination of a "proper" pub with a wide range of draught ales, combined with a high quality food offer. Actually, the "lager" selection is rather predictable. We shared a starter (not convinced by the pairing of delicate crab with chilli but a personal view) and two mains, which were both excellent. Not cheap but prices in relation to quality. Orders at the bar, and credit card locked up for tab (I thought that had gone out a while ago). Attractive "old pub" decor, friendly service. We would definitely return. Large car park opposite, free from 2000.

Service was quick, friendly, polite. Nice atmosphere. Beer was very good. The food was mixed.Deserts were large portions but perhaps not quite as high a quality as other places. But nice.Mains, steak sandwich was excellent. As were the onion rings and porky chips (chips and bacon bits). Derbyshire tapas was highly rated. The royal kebab was nice, probably fairly priced as was a good bit of meat but it felt like it needed something. Maybe mushrooms or something to make the skewers standout more.No real complaints from other party members. Perfectly nice pub food, personally for 2 of us I'd go for a couple of sandwiches and some extra onion rings/chips. Go for a cheeseboard for dessert.Definitely have a pint or three.

What a find! It's almost impossible in Britain to find a pub which does both a range of real ales and excellent food. Some pubs do one or the other. Excellent real ale pubs often don't do food at all and gastro pubs often have no real ale, choosing to offer nasty gassy lager, or perhaps just one real ale, (almost always too cold and generic). However, the Exeter Arms has really superb homemade pub food and a wide selection of brilliant cask ales from local breweries. We had doorstep sandwiches with chips and gravy, a steal at £10 each - huge portions. The dripping gravy is the best I have ever had. Service is excellent too. Thanks!

Best pub grub in derby, I have ate here many times over the past 5/6 years and always enjoyed our meals , which seem to get updated fairly often which is good. They always have a well stocked bar which hosts local ales from the famous dancing duck brewery .They make an effort with cleanliness here too , even the toilets are good on match days! The outside beer garden is lovely too considering it's fairly central location to town.

Service was excellent and food was good. However, for the royal (and possibly other dishes?) It should really be specified on the menu that it has mushroom. The beef kebab on it was also a bit rare for some people's liking, should probably be asked when ordering as you would with steak.

Nice pub on the outskirts of town. Let?s of cosy corners to have a quiet discussion. Great selection of local beers particularly those from one of my favourite breweries (Dancing Duck). Used it as a base before going to the cricket.

Visited with my partner to celebrate our anniversary, the second we were through the door we were made welcome by the staff who guided us to our table. We were informed that there was a 40 minute wait on food, but the welcoming atmosphere, brilliant ales on offer and high reputation of the quality of the food easily made up for this. My partner had the Woodsman Chicken and was very impressed with the quality and size of the meal, I had the Pie3 and each pie was cooked to perfection - the chips, gravy and peas added in for an absolutely wonderful meal.
