Cosy stop just off the Tarka Trail. Perfect pit stop to fuel your walk or bike ride. Amazing selection of cakes and delicious deli delights. Plenty of dairy free options too and friendly staff.

I love John's. It's not cheap but the quality of the food and produce is very good.Lots of local products for sale and unusual deli items. The café is very good with nice coffee from local roasters.I can heartily recommend to locals and tourists alike

Ate her recently. At the counter, they have some reduced items which are presumably going out of date very soon. There was a quiche with 75% off. When my family ordered their cakes, I asked for the reduced quiche. I was told that I could not have the reduced quiche to eat instore, I could only eat it as takeaway. They were happy to offer me the in-store version for £12 instead! Waitress could not explain herself when I asked why this was the case. Disappointing service overall. Nice coffee otherwise.

Staff took an absolute age to come to the table to take our order. I had to go to them in the end, at one point 4 staff standing around watching one person make one drink.. what was meant to be a quick stop for a coffee turned into a longer drink than planned. Not great if I am honest.

Amazing luxury deli and great attached dog friendly cafe. Always come here for coffee when we're in the area. Usually a few vegan cake things to choose from too.

Lovely visit today on a nice sunny day at the end of September. Nice buzz about the place, happy chatty staff. Many thanks to Katie who was just wonderful, an asset to your team. Regards to all.

Disappointing service, waited over 40 minutes for a coffee & a tea! Apology was limp and tried to make excuses that it was busy despite several empty tables! We were initially seated quickly but were forgotten so I went and ordered at the counter! After a while I noticed a table that arrived after us were having their food and drink?s delivered. So went back to the counter again as they had forgotten us again! Apology did not feel sincere as the waiter was trying to make excuses of it being busy?.what would it be like if it was full?

Delightful food in the cafe, very reasonably priced considering the exceptional quality.

Absolutely Amazing Toastie, my wife & I bought some fish from Devon & Cornwall fish Co and my wife made a remark about needing some nice bread to go with the Crab meat she bought from them. The guy recommended going to John?s of Instow and now I am recommending them! I bought a Sourdough bloomer and 2 pulled pork and Emmental cheese toastie and WOW absolutely delicious!!I would definitely make a special journey back up to Instow just for another sandwich ???

A fabulous evening all round. A great bunch of people, Lauren was a wonderful host and Clare a superb, patient artist. We were both so happy with our first ever watercolour paintings. Thank you

I bought goods and coffee several times over the last year and the experience is overall disappointing.First of all the good aspects: the pasties are very tasty and there is a good selection of cheese.Unfortunately, the overall range of goods is overpriced as the price does not correspond to the quality of some of the food. Also the coffee is quite expensive and the service is quite slow (15 minutes for a black americano is way too much)... hopefully it will improve before my next visit

I thoroughly enjoyed the Sip and Paint workshop at Johns with Clare Willcocks. The tuition was expert, friendly and supportive. The gin and canapés were delicious. It was great to have a couple of hours learning a new skill with other like- minded people in a non- threatening environment. It was great to have something to be proud of to take home at the end of the evening. Loved it !

Our experience here was very disappointing, we went twice to John's, once to their Appledore location and once to the one at Instow. The price we paid for a small breakfast which consisted of croissants, berry compote, Portuguese tarts as well as an orange juice and a cappuccino was around £36! which I found was a rip-off considering the food wasn't particularly special and the coffee was incredibly weak tasting and was dissatisfying.I actually took the cappuccino back and they made another one, which was the same!Unfortunately, the croissants we had were not even warmed up, which considering the extra 20% or so added to the price for the privilege of sitting in made them rather poor value. The tables were also rather small, only just enough room to fit our handful of items on.We also found the toilets to be a subpar standard ion terms of cleanliness, not what you expect for a cafe purporting to be quite posh.
