We stayed here last night and I have to say the staff and food were tremendous. Such a great family run place and would definitely recommend staying here. What a gem of a place. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.

Booked this hotel through booking.com absolute bargain for bed and breakfast ? room a bit dated but spotless and great shower in bathroom, off to Adriano's restaurant what is next door to hotel they do a terrific 3 course special (12.00 to 5.00pm) fortunately for us this continued into the evening (mid week and quiet?) So nice three course steak meal it was absolutely delicious steak's cooked to perfection...chips to die for.Staff all friendly and helpful and a big shout out to Dawn who put us onto the special and even tinkered with starters when asked....... keep up the good work and hope to see you again soon ... I wanted somewhere to stay near Beamish for 5 nights. The Moorings was great value for money. Perhaps a little 'tired' in some ways, but I've never cared so long as a hotel is clean and the staff are there for you - and it really was a good deal.

We love going to Arianos at The Moorings and the Sunday lunch is wonderful. £12 for two courses and the portions are enormous and the quality is spot on. The staff are so efficient and you are seated and your drinks are ordered within minutes. We usually get beef and it is so tender and plentiful. You even get a sausage with your lunch which is unique. Definitely worth a visit and the Italian menu is great too, the pizzas are lovely.

We came to celebrate my mum?s 70th. The food was fantastic - particularly catering for my brother who is coeliac - most of the menu was available to him. Staff were amazing, particularly Dawn and Michael who went out of their way to make sure we had a good time. We will definitely be back!

We ate here last week whilst staying in Lumley Castle. I had Chicken Alla Creama. The sauce tasted very strange so after a few mouthfuls I left most of it. On the menu it said with onion, mushrooms & cream. I was very ill all night and the next day, which ruined our stay at Lumley Castle. I think this was due to garlic in the sauce which was not mentioned on the menu or the sauce being off. I can not eat garlic and it makes me ill. I sent a message to them via the website to advise them about this but I have been ignored hence the bad review. Had they contacted me back to discuss this, I would not have left this review but feel other customers should know about it. Not a good experience and we will certainty not be back.

With a party of 20 you come to expect a couple of problems with orders of this size, but not here, ordering was easy food came out almost all together, piping hot and very tasty, the quality of the meals was superb. The whole evening was made better by the very helpful and knowledgeable staff. This is defiantly a restaurant worth a visit. I cannot recommend highly enough.

We visited the Italian restaurant tonight for my mothers 70th birthday. We were looking forward to this after hearing positive reviews but were disappointed. The main issue was getting a drink. There was one person making drinks rushed off her feet and about 5 waiters walking around. We had to send back the shandy which tasted like beer then the rose wine and lemonade which tasted off. I had one moretti and ordered another which never arrived despite chasing this twice. We were then charged for 3 moretti?s and the waiter kindly removed 2 from the bill. The service was below average, young lads probably without much experience. We ordered the 3 course special but didn?t have the coffee and desert as we didn?t know how long it would take and we were fed up at this point.

Had the unfortunate experience of staying here overnight. A 'girl' showed us a room which wasn't made up, hastely taking us to another one, then announced that breakfast was at '9', not before or after, 'thats what she was told'! The room was noisy and too hot but after waiting until '9' the next morning, and making ourselves late, no one turned up! Forget breakfast you won't get it, in fact stay somewhere else. We couldn't even book out, there was no one there. We left the keys on the door handle!

Unfortunately we never got to stay here because I received a message on the day to say our booking had been cancelled, they were blaming Booking.com for overbooking but we had actually booked this in February so if it was double booked I think I would have been notified well before the actual day we were booked to stay. When I rang about the issue that was all I kept getting from them, saying it was Booking.com?s fault. I was told that everyone had booked in and that mine was the double booking, but on my booking it said that check in was from 4.00pm?????? We then had to try to find somewhere else to stay for the night which cost us an extra £100, this really spoilt our day as it was our Wedding Anniversary and we had tickets to see Rod Stewart on the night. A courtesy call would have been better than a message saying they had cancelled. My advice is don?t book this place as they may notify you that your booking is cancelled before you get there. Absolutely shocking

We stayed here while visiting Beamish. The owners haven't been here long and are still finding their feet but the food is pretty good and reasonably priced. We had several meals here, including breakfast and all was good. One night we had a pizza each and it was too much for us. We should have shared one because it was huge. It's very popular with families early in the evening and at the weekend. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Our hotel room was a good size and very comfortable. We had one or two issues with lights flashing in the bathroom and an airlock in the plumbing one morning but, apart from that, it was good.

So called in today for Sunday lunch and to be fair the place was busy but.... Still eating our starter we were approached by young blonde girl who asked if we were finished our starters and proceeded to take our plates away while we were still eating. Then we waited and waited and waited for our mains. Over the next 30 minutes we saw several staff look at our table and they could see we still had no food. We eventually had to ask not one but two members of staff to check where our food was. Eventually we received our mains and to be honest it wasn't great. Beef was very thin and tough and potatoes were hard and cold. Not a good experience and totally let down.

Awful experience. Booked table. Arrived 15 minutes before and waited 30 minutes in busy bar area. Food being carried out to tables through crowded bar area. At leat 10 other people waiting for overdue table and being ignored. Glad we didn?t wait any longer as the food looked awful. Won?t return

We booked this hotel as we were visiting Beamish and wanted to stay overnight, it is just a couple of miles down the road, so it?s really convenient. Also it's not too far from the Metro Centre, etc. Booking through a company I've never heard of before (agoda.com), we got a really great price for bed and breakfast. The room is lovely, well equipped, great bathroom with shower (I think the shower curtain is brand new) and very clean. Also, there is a great terrace outside, what a suntrap! Having seen the menu, we decided to have our evening meal here too and were so impressed with the 3 course meals on offer: my husband chose from the chicken menu (£12), I had the fillet steak menu (£22). Neither of us could fault the meal, it was really lovely, the best 'set menu' we've ever had in terms of price, quality, quantity and taste - we both really enjoyed it and the service was very good and very friendly. We wake very, very early, so breakfast at 9am is a little late for us ... but it gave our evening meal time to settle and we were definitely ready to eat by the time we went back to the dining room. Breakfast is cooked to order and it was really lovely, we both very much enjoyed it. Should we ever stay overnight in the area, we would definitely stay here again; I just wish the restaurant was closer to us, we?d definitely come on a regular basis! Very highly recommended.

Booked for 3 nights, checking was fine room was spacious and very clean with an added bonus of a private decking area and the room was serviced daily . My only concern when booking the Moorings is it seemed a little remote which was not a problem for us as we booked it so as to visit Beamish Museum, our concern was eating as we tend not to eat at hotel because price and quality of food can be off putting but we can honestly say that the food served to us was superb and at a price that was surprisingly cheap as far as we were concerned . The food and the service were brilliant . But just as constructive criticism (and I use the word criticism lightly ) is that there was no info in the room ie breakfast times , food served from and till , local information etc . So thank you to all at the Moorings and we will see you again next time we travel north
