The welcome to eat only in the restaurant was brilliant and the waiter (unfortunately I didn't get his name) was genuinely decent. My rating is based on, there was no visual print to say there was a 12.5% service charge. Furthermore, the roast lamb was below par for the price. "Lamb on the bone", I'd get more meat from a Toby carvery! The roast potatoes, I needed a steak knive to cut through.I can't stress, the staff were amazing but the additional unforseen costs and food quality wasn't. It was my first experience there and with the unmentionable service charge and cost of a roast dinner that wasn't upto scratch has left me to say, thank you to our table server but not likely to return.

Beautiful hotel, charming staff, in a delightful location. Car parking availability. The main downside was lack of wardrobe and drawer space. We all but fell over our luggage, as there was insufficient wardrobe and drawer capacity albeit just for a few days.Hanging a long dress was all but impossible.Had it not been for this, albeit our room was far more compact than anticipated, it would have been 5s.

I would give Wingrove House Hotel 5 stars for comfort, location, quality of dining, and conviviality. It is the ideal hotel for a Glyndebourne Opera visit, which is about 15 minutes away. Most of the bedrooms have king sized beds, the bathrooms are modern, and the staff are friendly and accommodating.

My first overnight stay at this beautiful hotel in Afriston, East Sussex on the South Downs for something of a personal treat. I booked the Churchill Room, the top room in the hotel. Spacious, tastefully furnished and well laid out, bearing in mind the restrictions that would have applied to this 'gracious old lady'. The bedroom was sumptuous with its original beams and huge bed. The bathroom and shower room was equally spacious and perfectly thought out. Two relatively minor criticisms that dropped a star. The stairs to the Churchill Room have quite narrow treads so great care should be taken as you climb and descend, particularly for the elderly - I'm 75! A minibar or a small fridge would make a welcome addition to the room for items like chilled water, soft drinks, etc. There appeared to be no ice stations on the landings. There was a handy and very welcome Nespresso machine in the room but no sweetener options, only sugar. Fortunately, I always bring my own. Also, an unexplained and deafening fire/smoke alarm siren filled the room at 00:20 on Sunday morning! There was no way of switching it off and no one came to check if there had been a fire or if any smoking had taken place. I'm a lifelong non-smoker! It took some time to settle again after the alarm. Finally, breakfast! 10 out of 10! Polite and welcoming staff to the lone diner and THE most delicious selection. My full English with two soft-poached eggs was perfect. I have never seen such dark-coloured yolks so I imagine that the produce was local. Again, no sweetener options, only sugar and any table sauces had to be requested. All in all, a very relaxing break away from London and a definite return at some time in the future although, on reflection, I'd book one of the rooms on ground level.

Had a family Sunday lunch at the Wingrove today. It was fabulous food- best I have had for a long time. It?s a fabulous venue but main thing was delicious food. Staff were all professional and welcoming. Whole experience was a pleasure. Thank you

Always a delight. Food excellent charming attentive staff. A splendid evening out as always.Nearby activities: Just on the edge of delightful Alfriston,The Star, owned by Alex Politzi is close by. The Wingtove is a great location and, in our opinion,a better deal/experience.

Nice little hotel . Nice room if a little warm being in the roof but well appointed and comfy bed. Excellent meal in restaurant with friendly service. Recommended.

We didn?t stay here, but we did visit for meal. We were very lucky as were about to dine outside as was such a warm evening. The service, food and beautiful courtyard was a lovely experience. Our only gripe was the coffee. We didn?t think it was up to the standard as the rest of the food that evening. But the lamb and chips were the best we have ever eaten. Delicious.

Thank You for that.
