Just had a lovely family lunch celebrating my birthday (21again?)Very warm welcome from the two ladies, explained the menu and took drink orders. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect back drop for savouring the hearty seasonal pub food on our menus and the carefully nurtured matured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar. The Castle at Great Leighs (formerly St Anne’s Castle) is situated between Braintree and Chelmsford and has stood on the site for hundreds of years. The Castle is steeped in spooky local legends, these tales tell of spirits haunting the pub and grounds of The Castle, including the witch that was burnt at the stake at Scrapfaggots Green.
