“Gorgeous grade II listed building with wood beams and rustic decor.Everything was comfortable and clean. The bed was comfy and so was the other furniture. The room was spacious, which is a wonderful luxury!Other amenities: WiFi, large wardrobe with hangars, TV, hair dryer, electric sockets, bedside lamps, mirrors, kettle.Spacious bathroom with handwash, glass tumblers and fluffy, quality towels provided. I like a powerful shower personally so was a bit disappointed with the water pressure although, again, some concessions have to be made for staying in such a gorgeous grade II listed building. I imagine the plumbing must be a challenge!Remember to bring your own toothpaste and body wash/shampoo as none is provided (there is a local shop very nearby if you forgot).Bottles of water, coffee, tea, milk/sugar all laid out nicely on a small tray inside the room. There's no air con (it's a grade II listed building) but they do provide a fan for those stuffy summer nights.Lovely atmospheric pub beneath/alongside the hotel. Free full English breakfast but you can also just have toast if you wish.Friendly, helpful staff. Sometimes you'll find the front desk is unmanned.Outside:Plenty of parking spaces! There is a busy road nearby but it's quiet on a night and did not disturb my sleep (light sleeper).Small convenience store just over the road which is handy (open 5:30am - 9pm).Lovely location, lots of interesting and lovely places nearby.Further afield, Chelmsford isn't too far away (15mins by car) where there's an Odeon for moviegoers.I had a lovely, comfortable stay! It felt safe and welcoming. Would happily stay again.”
