Stood there at the till as five staff (FIVE) stood there chatting. No one thought to let me pay for the stuff. I gave up.

What is it with over priced charity shops? The stock is donated so you can take more and shift more if you have a better pricing structure. I went in today and their CD'S are so overpriced, it is a near obsolete medium, I see charity shops selling 2 or 3 for a £1. One in Upminster sells 10 for £1 (DVD and CD combo). Also overpriced goods means less selling, less rotation. But what do I know, I have only worked in loads of charity shops. This one is now off my list.

I volunteer there and the staff and manager are very friendly I work out the back mainly because I get anxiety around too many people and I can just work at my own pace

I always believed that charity shops were for charity, selling donated clothes at a reasonable, affordable price, but in this particular store {Southend on sea} The prices are too unrealistically high...The manager is rude & unprofessional. She treats her volunteers badly. Her bullying, trouble making behaviour towards her volunteers is very unprofessional...She is basically a nasty, two faced bully, who needs to remember that her volunteers are giving their time for free. Back stabbing, two faced, gossiping, bullying behaviour towards her volunteers & fellow staff members is unprofessional...As a manager she should not be gossiping, back stabbing, bullying people who are there to help & gain experience for work...Throwing away perfectly good items, because they are not brand new, is basically disrespectful to the people who kindly donate their items for charity....People who buy second hand clothes from charity shops, want the items to be affordable. Otherwise they would not be shopping in a charity shop. If the clothes are that expensive to buy second hand, they don't get sold, which is wasteful, considering these over priced clothes are donated for free. Why not be a actual charity shop & sell the items...Cheers...

If you love a bargain, but prefer new items or very good condition secondhand ones, then oxfam Southend is definitely worth a look. With the best opening hours of any charity shop I've ever visited, this one rarely closes before 6pm! Prices are a little steeper than I really like in my charity shops, but there's a lot of brand new stock from M&S, sainsbury and some really lovely things (like Ted Baker brand new dresses) on offer. Clean, bright and well organised display areas. Friendly, helpful manager and volunteers. Fitting room available Occasional events and competitions. Books, media, collectable, children's toys and clothing, home wares, men's and ladies' wear, accessories and jewellery.
