Best cheesy chips in the county! Always warmly greeted by the staff, great music nights and lovely locals!

I was recommended this joint by a mate and thought I'd pop in when I was on a business trip in the area. I've never come across a more polite and lovely staff member. Debs was so attentive to us. She'd been called in to help out and found difficulty getting childcare, so had a "bring your kid to work day". Her little one was so friendly and sweet. She looked after me despite having to keep an eye on everyone else, and her kid at the same time. People in her position should be celebrated. Doing their best to be smiley, happy, helpful and genuine whilst serving. Massive credit to the business. Clearly a hard working mum. Give her a raise! Turns out she's also an event organiser in the area and does loads for the locals. Above and beyond in my opinion. I recommend this place!

The food here is always superb, and good value for money. All of the staff go above and beyond for anyone visiting, and couldn't be friendlier or more welcoming. Family-friendly and dog-friendly! The Carps would be my number 1 recommendation around Stroud and surrounds, every time.

Disapointed on the food. Soup cold - staff member more concerned on their young child who they had to bring to work! Child behind bar pretending to be bar staff - sitting looking through horse racing pages therefore having to ask to come to bar - recommened by a local - Not great!

Our group visited the Carpenters Arm for lunch today for the first time. It had a feeling reminiscent of Fawlty Towers where the establishment doesn't seem to want your custom.Mr Fawlty was quick to make some sarky comments about Londoners not knowing what a "real" pub is like and to make little jokes at my friend's expense to make the locals laugh at her.Ironically, none of the three who he spoke to are actually from London?????Manuel was a nice young chap who tried to help us with our lunch and sweets but Mr Fawlty kept undermining him.We ordered steaks and mine was one of the worst I ever had, chewy and raw in the middle. I asked for medium rare but this was cold in the middle (see pics). My Fawlty appeared towards the end of the meal to ask us how the steaks were but I didn't have time to reply before he swanned off to make jokes at some other faux londoners. My friends' meals were decent so perhaps I just got a one off bad dish as other reviews are very positive.Overall, we all felt very unwelcome and as if Mr Fawlty was trying to be the big bad village wolf. After the meal we got some of their old fashioned sweeties from the young man and Mr Fawlty appeared and we had conversation together...Interestingly, without all the locals to play up to, he was quite friendly and nice.

Food was nice came in quick time, younger staff was well mannered, however the owner was an absolute k*ob!!!!. Demanded all of our IDs the second we walked in the door in an extremely rude manner before any of me and my mates even asked for an alcoholic drink. We ordered our food and soft drinks and sat outside waiting. The owner continued to come outside giving us dirty looks like we was up to no good when all we was doing was patiently waiting. On a whole just came across an absolute snobby, unmannered, rude man. Will not be returning to this pub ever.

we have been to this pub a number of times now and every time we walk away we regretting paying there ridiculously high prices . the staff are rude and ignorant . after just sitting down ?. they came over and put my drink on of of there cup mats and sighed. wow. food is not great for the price . chips are thick and never got a crisp . all the food is cooked in fatty oil which is then on your plate. i payed £20 for fish and chips which i was so surprised when it come and it was a frozen fish !!!never againwouldn't recommend

Visited with my wife to enjoy the live music, and enjoyed an excellent meal, in a warm friendly atmosphere with well kept beer all at reasonable prices. A small and cosy bar in the winter but has a nice garden area for the warmer summer times. The food is mostly sourced from their own garden and from local farm suppliers.
