I used to enjoy going into this place to purchase items such as sandwiches, salads etc but I will never set foot in this place again because it is now horrible. I do not mind paying slightly more for certain items, but it is no longer worth it. The self-service tills are a nightmare and customers are treated like cattle. Members of staff are not around to answer questions. The whole experience is just a horrific nightmare of unprofessionalism and it is no longer a good experience to go shopping there. The amount of food which must get thrown out must be enormous. It should be blatantly obvious from reading some of the reviews that some customers are not happy. The self-service tills never work properly and I hope that your hard-working employees did not lose their jobs because of these monstrocities. Going to M & S is a source of frustration for customers. Why spend money at a business which obviously no longer cares about its customers and does little in the way of making one's shopping experience even remotely pleasurable?
***In addition to my post, I witnessed the event described by DAVID GINN. The employeewas being ridiculous. People spent copious amounts of money at this place and the employee makes a big deal about a few forks? The individual had a perfectly reasonable explanation for taking the forks. It was not as if he was stealing anything. He should not have been "cross examined." With the amount that M & S charges for food, the employee made a big deal about nothing. The employee clearly felt "powerful" over individuals and was very abusive. This is NOT acceptable and after seing such a disgusting display, I shall never set foot in that awful place again - I tried to give the shop another chance on that day, and my views are now fully confirmed that the M & S at Waterloo Station is apallingly terrible and the member of staff described below acted in a disgusting, rude and inappropriate way. I still cannot comprehend how vile and ill-mannered the customer service rep was. David Ginn (please refer to the post) was treated in a horrible fashion and it seems as if common sense took a holiday.

Absolutely disgusting customer service at the waterloo branch, after buying my items i asked a very rude young man on till service if any forks were available ?
He just walked off saying nothing ! Upon his return produced a handful and said nothing I took a few for myself and colleagues we were sharing a salad and few other things so spare forks needed (at no point in any other stores have I ever been told how many forks spoons etc I could take )? He Immediately got aggressive and said who are they all.for why do I need so many ? Continued to question me.as a customer asking me ridiculous questions about taking ten forks ......this member of staff had he been employed by my company, would be under investigation by now customer service was no where to be seen today at Waterloo vile rude member of staff hateful experience all round

One of the staff members there was very helpful. He helped me exchange the faulty shirt quickly as he had seen me in the store hours earlier.
