What can I honestly say about Barking (East London, UK) - I instantly can connect with the bewilderment of the classic fictional film character:"U.S. Army Captain Benjamin L. Willard" played by Martin Sheen in:"Apocalypse Now" [ 1979 / USA ].It's a place that feels like it was once pleasent, a very long time ago yet now it's filled with unfriendly, miserable and lost people.I witnessed on the evening of Saturday 24th February 2024 -a woman screaming in overt psychological distress (on the junction of Station Parade - Ripple Road directly outside a Bet Fred branch) about a lack of love given to her throughout her life...!!!Hearing that level of another individual being in such specific internal pain is something you can't easily forget.Another example was the following evening - Sunday 25th February 2024 with the nearest address to locate this 'orror show being:50 Station Parade, Barking,East London, IG11 8EAIt's known as: St. Awdry's Walk - an underground pedestrian crossing leading to St. Awdry's Road.St. Awdry's Walk has an alternative use:being an open Urinal for Barking High Street. The stench of urine just walking past on the High Street was overwhelming horrific, this has to be hundreds of people urinating at St. Awdry's Walk daily...!!!Imagine, having no option but to use St. Awdry's Walk in accessing the nearby Barking Train Station (Tube and Overground), no wonder Barking is the place that nobody smiles. The hotel itself in the heart of Barking High Street - it's okay yet constantly having to reactive the pass key with often the SAME member of staff was on "Fawlty Towers" levels.Ohhhh, being moved from the original booked room to another because of the same issue !?!?The room itself was hygienic with a pleasant member of cleaning staff encountered.Lesson that I've learnt is bring your own Iron don't depend on the Hotel as you might be given one that goes AGAINST health and safety regulations.Barking needs urgent redevelopment with demolishing out-of-date housing that creates a negative impact upon anyone visiting and living in that area with NEW architecture that's uplifting. Also, a Central UK Government Action Task Force must be created to help with the worrying psychological state of it's population or it's 'I predict a riot' type deal, sadly.I NEVER felt safe in Barking at any time apart from a great outstanding restaurant:Suya HutA rare positive for Barking.Nearby activities: Don't even bother.Safety: Please read the review as I never felt safe in Barking at any time apart from a great outstanding restaurant:Suya HutA rare positive for Barking.

4 night stay yet they overbooked and had to shove us in a temporary family room for one night, uncertain if they'd have to move us to the double that we'd booked in the morning. We got all the way up to our room which was the furthest away possible and down so many corridors. Then our keycards didn't work so we had to go all the way back through the corridor maze to reception and back up with the working cards. Early wake up call on a Saturday morning to tell us they were moving us, but only to wait for someone else to come up to give us the new card which took way too long and meant we had gotten ready for the day and had to wait around uncertain. In the end we decided to leave our bags at reception and make them take them to the new room because we had stuff to do. No apologies or offers of compensation in any way. Only one plug socket near the main table, none near bedside tables - ridiculous! Monday morning, ridiculously loud drum and bass music coming from somewhere nearby. Can't close window that is cracked open permanently yet restricted for "safety". The music woke us both up so early despite having work to get to. Location is close to Barking station and District line access is good but still a long way out that I wouldn't do again. The trade off with cheaper prices isn't worth the trek and the loud noise and the bad service.Walkability: Good access to Barking station, only a few mins walk.

The worst of the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, you would get more for your money at a 0* backyard B&BStaines on bed sheets and towelsHotel sells rooms even when the beds are physically damaged.Travelodge are a nationwide hotel chain but unfortunately are failing massively at this location. They are not providing a minimum standard of service a hotel should provide.Disgusting place save your money and avoid at all costs, you'd be better off camping on the streets.Travelodge should be ashamed of themselves!!!!

Rooms are only cleaned once every 7days, expect to make your own bed during your stay, towels are refreshed upon a signal sign to be placed by the door. This should be mentioned in the website. I found it strange to adjust to.

Best place I have ever stayed, it was all clean and comfortable. The receptionist Lira is lovely and friendly, she honestly deserves a whole raise salary. She made us feel welcomed and helped us a lot.

Great location near restaurants and the tube. Lovely staff. Very quiet. The only thing I could say that is negative is not being able to tie the curtain back to allow natural light in the morning and really could do with more power sockets. 2 is not enough for 2 adults and 2 children.Clean and tidy rooms and plenty of parking nearby.

I?ve stayed at this hotel several times before. It?s really quiet and comfortable and has been fully refurbished since my last visit so it feels very ?new?. It?s convenient for Barking station which has excellent connections for the Underground and Overground for quick and effortless travel into the city. There?s also a town centre McDonald?s just opposite the hotel for late night food. The only downside is the walk from the station to the hotel, which is the sort of route you feel safest walking in the centre of the road, keeping your wits about you and avoiding contact with passers-by. The hotel is down a rather gloomy and shadowy side-street which would be off-putting for some. The hotel has a small reception area but no cafe, however the rooms and corridors are spacious and well-maintained. The receptionist is helpful and the standard of facilities is very good: piping hot water, a lovely big towel and a firm, comfortable bed. It?s a good solution for someone on a budget but not in the same league as some of Travelodge?s better-located, mainstream city centre hotels.

Rifat was very helpful in assisting us. The room was nice too. Bed was comfy, pillows were too. There's a nice cafe near by with amazing croissants and the station is just a 5 minute walk from this location.

The staff of Travelodge Barking are absolutely fantastic, customer service and cleanliness that other Travelodge's could learn from! I?ve stayed a few times now and have never been disappointed with anything and as supervisor from a 5 star golf resort I spot everything that could be improved. From the manager Andrew, the reception staff Kelly and lsa to the housekeeping staff you are an asset to the Travelodge name. Looking forward to my next stay.
