Just returned from a shopping trip and decided to pop in to your Kingston store. I entered via the first floor and was looking for notebooks. When I was unable to locate them I asked a short lady, with brunette shoulder length hair, wearing blue rimmed glasses whether they were sold in the store - unfortunately was not wearing a name badge. First she looked at me as if I had insulted her and then she said no! When I stared at her a little longer she then said they're on the ground floor, no niceties or politeness whatsoever. Really could do with being retrained in customer service. Now it's entirely possible she was having a bad day or simply woke up on the wrong side of the bed, that's no reason to be grumpy with customers. I do wonder if I was racially profiled since I'm a turban wearing Sikh with an uncut beard!!Frankly in this day and age I expect people to be A) less ignorant and B) more accepting of others. And before you ask I have already sent your CS team the same mail.

I had wanted to use the bookcycle programme offered by WHSmith. The cashier said that I should come in tomorrow as his login wasn't working. I told him that I could not come tomorrow. He then went in the back with the book that I wanted to recycle and came back with a crease that wasn't there before claiming that they couldn't accept the book because of its' condition.

DO NOT ENTER. Despite purchasing flashcards, a member of staff who was not doing much, and just chatting with a colleague decided to chastise my friend for shaking a light up ball, as instructed to on the packet. This was unnecessary and rude, and the staff member continued to argue with us, his own customers. I should have taken my business elsewhere; perhaps an independent stationer like Suttles in New Malden. Enter at your own risk.

Thought I'd walked into a Card Factory. 7 aisle of cards and no pens for sale other than two multi packs of sharpies. Ridiculous.

Came looking for a specific book, was having trouble so asked for help from an employee. Got a really cold and uninterested reply that they didn't have the book (even though I'd seen it online), so I asked if there was a stock system we could check together and again got a blunt reply that they didn't have it. Employee seemed really uninterested and like they couldn't be bothered. Went to Waterstones instead and an employee there saw I was struggling to find the book so they made a point of asking if I needed help before I went looking for it. I left Waterstones with my purchase and couldn't have been happier. Even though I paid a little bit extra, it was worth every penny. Won't be using WHSmith anymore.

The shop is tidy and I received great customer service, especially from one of the staff members who went the extra mile to make my journey to the shop worthwhile.

On the weekends I went to WHSmith Kingston with my children to buy stationary. I couldn?t find the right type of stationary on the shop floor however a young lad with glasses went above and beyond to get some for my children from the stock room. He was very polite and professional.Excellent customer service!

It is what it is and if you want to get obscure magazines for niche hobbies, this has always been the go to place. But I. Today's times it feels like if chain version of a corner shop that is ten times the size and ten times less choice, unless it is magazine's.Hence it is not quite anything, is it a bookshop, stationers, newsagent corner shop, or a toy shop - well yes and no. It's a a bit of everything and yet unless you are after everything, or after specific item then you periodically about once a year or two, walk around seeing what has changed and walking out seeing almost tempting items, but never enough to purchase. If anything, they should all offer postoffices in-store as that has more synergy and footfall attraction than current and a logical move that would serve them well. Or I do feel they will go the way of Woolworths and that would be a shame. After all, if you want a niche magazine this is the shop that has always helped fit that gap and that's a niche that is less used these days due to digital media. They do need to adapt as I for one do not want to live in a World in which all shopping is online, delivered and a Lego world of housing stacks as far as the eye can see as nobody goes outside. So do shop here, or give it a try or embrace the dystopian future now and be done with it all. You have a choice, make it wisely.

The top floor is a typical tiny, overcrowded and over stocked WHS. The bottom floor, which stocks books and stationary, is much better. The staff are rude and lack a basic knowledge of their own store. I would go to the Rymans/Watersones that are nearby instead.
