Beautiful heritage restaurant in the heart of London. Good value fixed price 3 course meal. Attentive staff. Lovely choice after enjoying Cabaret at the theatre evening before

Why oh why don?t management, their lighting designers and the people who design and print the menus talk with one another. Light print in odd fonts on a pastel background doesn?t work in low light. You need bold black arial on white or glaring bright light. OK. We had pea soup and steak tartare starter. My tartare had neither enough onion or capers for my liking. My companion said the soup was excellent. For mains I had duck. It was tough. My companion had the tartare as a main. The condescending waiter felt the need to tell us it was raw. We knew. Worse, the pretentiousness, in London, of handing out French language menus! I can read a menú ( in appropriate font/colour/lighting ) in multiple languages. My companion doesn?t read French. It?s a sort of perverse customer humiliation ritual. NOT FUNNY.

Wonderful lunch, food was excellent and service from Henri was outstanding and we had done good banter / engagement with him. The only disappointment was when we got talking about football and we support different teams in north london. Again great banter. Henri is a credit to the business and made our lunch even more enjoyable.

I went for food with two colleagues after work and they picked this place. It was a complete surprise to go down the stairs and find the quirky French restaurant there. We were a walk in and would have had to wait an hour for a table but we were offered and seated immediately at the bar. The menu is a bit different and you can order to suit a budget, there are prix fixe and other set menu options. We ordered a mix off both set and a La carte, starters, mains and one dessert. There was plenty of supply of fresh bread and butter also. We had a bottle of wine and one extra drink on top each and it came to £45 each for the 3 of us including service charge (of 15%). Not bad for this part of London and the food was pretty good. There was live entertainment on the stage throughout and a bustling atmosphere. Staff were great.

Very disappointed this evening. Food was poor compared to other visits. We both had Formule, with coq au vin. This was like chicken cooked in a tin of cooking sauce, one thigh and one tiny drumstick. And so salty. Served with 2 heart shaped pieces of what I presume was fried bread?? Tasteless. The celeriac remoulade was salty too and quite awful. Not sure I would return. Waiting staff unfriendly and whole place was noisy without atmosphere.

I went with a friend for lunch. The moment we sat down a waiter tended to us. He was French and rather difficult to understand, I needed to ask a couple of times about the menu and in the end I gave up. Throughout our meal we felt rushed , the plate was taken away with bread I was still eating on it , along with a glass of wine that I hadn?t finished. He then continued to brush the table down as if to hurry us up. Our booking was 1.15pm till 3pm and this was at 2pm. We felt extremely uncomfortable. So when the bill arrived I told him that we were not happy paying the service charge, he stormed off. A very nice member of staff came to discuss the situation and agreed to deduct the service charge. I am always happy to pay service charge when it is good or even adequate service, but in this instance it was neither.

We had been previously, about 3 or 4 years ago, and it was as good as we remembered it to be. We chose from the Fixed Priced menu and thought the food was excellent and good value for money. The soup was excellent, as was the beef steak burger with peppercorn sauce (they give it a posh name). The chocolate desert was also very good. The setting is an experience not to be missed, the service was very good. In all we felt we had great food, in a lovely environment at a reasonable price.

I was so looking forward to visiting this place. The place is beautiful, and I had a very good experience in your bar next door. I was very disappointed with the service and the quality of food. We had no view of the band at all because we were seated in the corner and next to the column. The service was horrible. The guy seemed to not know what he was doing. We had to aked for menus. Half of our drinks were missing. Chips were missing. French onion soup was bland with two small and old hard croutons and no cheese. Steak american turned out to be a burger meat swimming in the peppercorn sauce. Really disappointed with my experience.

I read a lot of different reviews about this place. We decided to go because of the beautiful setting and live music in the evening. The program was supposed to include French chanson and other music for several hours. In fact, it was jazz. The singer sang very quietly and for only one hour and sang poorly. But the worst thing was the food! My husband ordered pork steak. Pork is usually hard to spoil. The steak was inedible! All with veins. My husband couldn't chew it and left it on the plate. He didn't want to ruin his birthday mood and didn't complain. We ordered fish. It was a simple cheap hake! A very small portion in the middle of a huge plate for a lot of money! Several more dishes were edible - but very small and at abnormal prices! The dessert was just as tiny. We received a bill for 115 pounds sterling and left half-starved. 3 pounds were included in the bill - it?s unclear why. When I asked the employee, he told me: because we held your table!!! I had such an expression on my face that he said - you can cancel it and went and canceled it. London is an expensive city, but in other restaurants we paid much less and ate delicious, high-quality food and normal portions! Just a robbery!

Really good food and great value. Service was a little slow but it was Friday night and they were really busy. Will go back again.

We had a lovely meal at Brasserie Zedel. It has a lively atmosphere and with the tall ceilings the acoustics bounce the noise above that I did have issues hearing my friends. The food was cooked well and the service was good, but we did have issues trying to get the bill at the end of the evening. We were a group of four and they sat us in a booth which was a bit tight and too cosy, I should have asked to move us to a round table instead, but it seemed too busy. Next time I will pre-request it.

I visited Brasserie Zedel (yet again) on a Friday lunch time. Love the wide variety of choices on the menu, the afternoon live jazz band, and the fact it has a dedicated gluten-free menu. My fellow diner is French and rates this place highly too. Service is consistently good. Despite the size of the place, you can talk without having to shout. I had the goat's cheese starter, hake main course and managed a bit of good icecream.

We know it's changed hands. Staff friendly and efficient. Trio playing at lunch time was intrusive and too loud. If you're going to meet up with 'old' friends for a chat then I don't recommend it. PIty because it used to be our very favourite place.

We have been to Zedel on many occasions over the last 10 years and always had a brilliant dining experience. However, our visit on Friday 8th was awful. Had to wait 10 minutes at the bar in the restaurant to be acknowledged and a further 8 minutes for our drinks - the staff were more interested in talking to each other. The evening got worse! Wrong main course delivered - had to ask for table to be cleared - dessert sitting on dumb serving table, I had to ask for it. Attitude of manager was disrespectful- he even started shouting at me! Small reduction in price £3! We doubt we will ever go back and will be spreading the bad experience to many many people! It was a sham!
