The BEST roast dinner I've ever had (and I've had my fare share). Service with a smile, food served within 20 minutes. Reasonably priced. Great for your furry friends too. Will deffo be coming back!!

The pub was lovely , clean and staff very friendly and helpful . Doggy loved it .Food , however was awful for the amount you paid . I had the tempura crab. It looked awful and I had literally one mouthful of crab. There was no meat apart from that .My partner had scampi and chips , peas and a some salad . It was like cafe food. They charged £10 for a Pinot and £16 for the cafe scampi and £9 for my one mouthful of crab meat and cucumber and carrot ribbons. It didn?t have the sauce they said either over the sad shrivelled tiny battered crab shape .Wasted £46. My partner had a beer at £6

Lots of promise butOrdered at the bar, then went to my table. Food ordered and came reasonably quickly.Starter was a squid dish, the batter was quite thick and crunchy in places, a little uneven. The recently cooked squid was placed upon some very limp and seemingly undressed leaves. Should have been round the squid.Main was apparently Malaysian chicken. As you can see by my profile, I visit quite a few restaurants of varying cuisines. The chicken was dry and overcooked in a bland coating. The dressing seemed to be some sort of maybe sweet chilli dressing, served on a bed of unexciting rice with a coleslaw style serving. Didn't feel overly excited by the fare, quite busy but unexceptional.

Just had a lovely lunch. We were a last minute booking. I had the Rigatoni and King Prawns in Lobster Bisque. It was delicious. We were served by Richard. Who couldnt be more helpful. It was lovely to have a table by the fire.

Didn't book but got a table. The area was very cold, but after mentioning this, we're moved to a warmer area. The menu choices were good and the daily specials were also excellent. Well worth a visit.

Great service from very friendly staff , lovely old pub , within a stones throw of the river and surrounded by antique shops . We regularly visit the pub for food and or drinks . Food usually is excellent but this time slightly under par as for prices pretty normal for the area .

Love the Barge Inn. Have been for breakfast and had lunch there. Food is very good. Nice selections of beers with some real ales on tap. Also very dog

Visited The Barge Inn this lunchtime. We used to go there quite frequently and it was excellent. However, today's visit was an example of how food and service can deteriorate dramatically. When looking at the menu, we asked a couple sitting nearby what they had and what they thought of it. The guy said his Malaysian Chicken was not good and best to avoid. His partner had Scampi & Chips and just said it looked good before eating it. So we decided on Haddock & Chips without Mushy Peas and ordered accordingly. When it was served, both plates had Mushy Peas on them. So much for basic customer attention. We pointed this out to the person serving us and who had also taken our order asking for some plates to move the horrible looking Mushy Peas onto. They weren't so much Mushy, just peas in a green goo. The Haddock was in a tomb of burned beer batter which was hard to penetrate. The Chips were also burned on the outside but not cooked on the inside and were as hard as the potato must have been when it was dug up from the ground. The homemade tartar sauce was lethal and should have had a warning printed on the dish. I doubt anyone who has a palate could have eaten this terrible food. We didn't and told the waitress so. Her response was "do you want something else or just call it a day?" No apology, no customer empathy, just a rude response. Needless to say we got up to leave. As we walked to the door, this waitress called out from behind the bar "If you thought it was so horrible, you won't bother to come back again". My Wife replied that we wouldn't be coming back and I just told the waitress there was no need to be sarcastic. This waitress, or whatever position she holds, needs to go on a customer care course and whoever is in the kitchen needs to be replaced. Haddock & Chips shouldn't be difficult to cook properly. One to avoid until they get their act together.
