Overall, a not so great experience. I think the post office is understaff. All the staff looks tired and overworked. Hopefully the regional/local HR are reading all the google reviews here to improve the customer experience! 1.7 out of 5 ratings is very poor.

Waited 20 minutes in line with 6 parcels only to be told by the rude, loud woman working here that she is going on break. Absolute joke of a post office. Everyone working there deserves to be fired.

In the last month I've wasted 3 hours of my time queuing at this Post Office. It is a disgrace.

Absolutely SHOCKING service given by the staff!! They are incredibly rude and literally look like they'd rather kill themselves than do their job. Deffo go to another post office if you have the option

This Post Office is the main Post Office serving the town of Ashton-under-Lyne, located inside WHSmith inside The Arcades Shopping Centre, towards the back of the store.I'm not a big fan of relocating Post Offices inside WHSmith stores, which is becoming more and more common now, while it keeps costs down, you start to notice the service quality deteriorating. The Post Office area here is surprisingly large, and they do have two self-service postage machines which can be used on some occasions, I had to use a manned counter as I had a QR code.I dislike the setup of the counters with the protective screens between the staff member and the customer, I find it makes service feel a lot less impersonal, and it makes it harder to communicate and pass mail through the tiny slot, the staff member also was unable to scan my QR code through the glass screen, so I had to somehow squeeze my phone though, which felt awkward and uncomfortable. I found the staff member who served me to be a little unhelpful and rude, with no common courtesies, and a lack of care when handling my phone/parcel.Opening hours are generic - 0900 - 1730 Monday to Saturday, and 11:00 to 15:00 on Sunday.2* - An essential location to the town centre but could be much better.

The staff are not particularly friendly and the dark skinned woman in particular is shockingly rude. Yesterday she was speaking to someone behind her for the duration of my transaction and didn't even glance my way. I asked for a proof of posing receipt and she ignored me to talk to the other staff member. I did get the receipt but she gave no indication of having heard me. When there is a queue, and more than one window open, I will always let someone go in front of me if it looks like I'll have to deal with her. It's ironic since there is a notice up asking customers not to take phone calls when carrying out their transaction, presumably because it's rude, and yet staff members are free to be as rude as they like. She is always abrupt to the point of rudeness and responds impatiently to questions. Definitely the rudest member of staff.

Went three times to renew my driving licence but machine not working and this time only one poor person on the counter out of seven! After queueing for 25 minutes was asked to come back in half an hour when there would be another member of staff. When I returned I had to wait again and finally someone tried to process this but it would not work on the tablet they were using, so I now have to go to Stalybridge or my licence will expire!! No wonder you can't recruit staff !!!The two staff that were there ( one was the Manager) were lovely and working very hard to deal with the constant queue of customers who were getting very frustrated at having to wait so long because of too few staff on the counters. You need to pull your socks up Post Office and do the job you're there for - to serve the public efficiently like you used to.I don't expect anyone from the Post Office will actually be bothered to reply to this review, but I hope you will prove me wrong and give me a reason why this is happening at Ashton Post Office.I won't hold my breath !
