Poor Smith's. There's just no point to them now. Their prices are higher on many items and it's now just somewhere to nip in to grab a quick drink because they have no queues compared to other shops. They do have a fantastic magazine selection though.\\n\\nEdit.\\nReturned today to check out some books. Alas the selection is smaller than ever and has now been moved to the upper floor. Seeing the prices on some of the things in there and it's like they aren't even trying to compete.

Went in to buy a christmas present and the price at the till was double, I said to the cashier its half price on the website. She said I had to prove it , this system is all wrong and needs to be altered from the head office

I went into their store yesterday evening and after half an hour when I went up to pay for the books. There was no one at store and the till ladies locked the whole store and I was locked inside. I was scared of what happened as there was no indication given of the store going to close while I was downstairs in the book section. I was going to call the police when the ladies from the till came out to put the shutter after 20mins. Pls check if customers are inside before closing a store or make an announcement about it. It was scary !

Tidy store. But I think, unfortunately, prices are high.

i was going along my day, looking for a limited edition of a Simon Cowell biography, when a giant rat bit my ankle. i grabbed the book and dragged my fleshwound back home for damage control. i came back the next day, only to face the same vicious rodent again. fresh blood still dripping from its fangs, the smell of horror and paper in the air and famine in its eyes. i turned back and never saw it again. one day i will return, richer in resources and experience. i need to go back. id rather die standing than live kneeling. great book though

Simply the only and best place for Magazines . Nowhere else has as many titles. Its got a calm feel and people who shop there always seem nice.

The lady with brown hair is literally the rudest person ive ever met, kept talking over me and when I asked her about something she literally said ' I dont know' the staff there need some training on basic manners, she was lucky I was in a rush to get somewhere..

WHSmith is certainly a staple of the British high street, it seems there are very few towns and cities in the country to lack a WHSmith store. It's a brand you pretty much expect to find wherever you go. This store fits that quota, it's nothing too exciting/different, it's your typical, average WHSmith. The store is a little dark, and while it isn't as modern as some of their newer stores, the store isn't as old-fashioned as some of their older ones which aren't very easy on the eye either. It is in a good location within Bolton town centre, it is a couple of minutes away from most shops in the town centre as well as Bolton Interchange. The prices are a little high, but they do have a satisfactory selection of books/drinks, nothing too impressive but if you're thirsty in town and looking for a quick beverage or to put on your lottery, without much of a queue and/or without having to go into a larger store such as one of the nearby supermarkets, this isn't too bad. The staff seemed friendly enough. 3*

What a run down store this is. No fault of the staffs, they were very helpful. Really needs a make over or rebrand.

Hardback fiction half-price. Select two books, go to pay, cashier busy so use self-scan, both books scan at full price with no reduction, have to then go to cashier whose till scans at the correct half-price. Why do the tills scan at two different prices? And how many people have not realised and paid wrong prices? Used to be a good shop - not any more. Seems to be a good candidate for the next company to go into administration.

I am disabled and use a mobility scooter, not a big scooter, Floor design needs to be looked in to, as i usually spend money in there, but since using a scooter, i have to shop elsewhere, as i tried to enter, but the floor and aisles have displays blocked by promotions. Not very disabled friendly, There is a lift, but of no use, when cannot get to it.

I arrived at this shop just before closing at 17:55 as one of the staff was coming in and out of the shop, with boxes and rushing around, As I was about to walk in and the doors opened he collected the sign and I asked if its ok to get a newspaper from the young man working there, it was a clear abrupt NO, no apology nothing. Disgraceful behaviour from your employees as I still had 5 minutes left anyway. Pitty it was not the Asian man who works here as he is always very professional and friendly, not like this member of staff who clearly could'nt wait to go, a sorry I'm about to close would have stopped this review but a rude poor attitude has caused all this, uncalled for!
