I have come across this review site as the business popped up in a search I conducted recently to look for somewhere to repair an old valve radio I wished to use again. I had quite forgotten about this place and there were no Google Reviews at the time I first encountered it to guide me...I wish there had been!. However,... I had been here before...TWENTY years ago in 2003, when the business accepted a fairly modern Roberts Radio Cassette player in for repair. I never heard back from the business and when I called upon them 8 months later in 2004; a lady eventually answered the door after much knocking and ringing, but barred the threshold and wouldn't let me in, and then tried to explain the core business was now converting vintage car radios over to modern receivers and media players whilst maintaining the original external casings and controls. She promised me that the owner would look for my device and return it. I never heard from them again, and repeated telephone calls and a letter as well as trips to the shop whose door was never answered convinced me there was no way I was getting my property back. It therefore, makes me wonder, as this business is apparently still going, ( which beggars belief) what on earth they do with all the property from customers that they never fix or return? Reading comments on here shows I was not alone all those years ago, and seemingly not subsequently. Bad faith or downright theft? Is anyone seriously telling me that the business was not aware they had items of other peoples' property that they had accepted to work upon and had just left lying around in heaps with no intention of doing so or returning such property that is not theirs. I am astonished this place has the bare faced cheek to remain trading. I understand about a bout of serious illness many years ago, but that was not anywhere near the time I am referring too, nor in the many years afterwards. There is seemingly no apology or contrition nor any attempt to address by way of reply what they intend to DO about it as it appears to still be happening judging by comments and reviews on here. Trading Standards anyone? Small Claims Court? Too late for me, and my item ( if it still exists) has little or no value now, BUT IT DID AT THE TIME , and that is the point. AVOID at all costs.

Left an old reel-to-reel recorder with him for repair and never heard back from the owner. Tried phoning many times during opening hours but no answer. Left messages but no returned call. Heard later that he, Alan, was ill but have never heard back and that was years ago.It seems that the shop is a hobby for him of which he is not bothered about honouring customers.Avoid the place and look online for somewhere else.Since then I have had many repairs done by Mike Powell who is excellent and I can highly recommend.Google Mike Powell Bolton.

Visited Alan and his shop today in search of a valve for my set and a radio for my dad. His shop is brimmed with many, many vintage sets and has plenty of radio valves in for most common makes and models. He knows his stuff! As for the comments on long repair times, these are complex devices and all work in different ways, therefore require various testing etc. Time will always be needed!Brilliant shop and a gentlemen. Looking forward to the next visit!

Most knowledgeable vintage valve solid state equipment ever met his shop & workshop is an Aladdin's cave will be a sad day when he packs up shop. Very reasonable rates don't be in a mad dash because he has work coming out of his ears but if it can be fixed he's your man

This guy is a waste of time. We gave him our gramophone to be fixed in August 2015, 6 Months later and it hasnt moved off the side where i left it, i can see in but he never opens his shop and doesnt answer the phone (answer machine is full so cant leave a message). Still trying to get it back to give to someone else.

Also had a record player of mine since jan 15... 8 months later and I just want it back, fixed or not. I also know Alan wasn't well earlier in the year but if somebody with anything to do with company could arrange to return my item.. I have left messages and they must be being collected as it alternates between being a full mailbox and being available to leave messages again.

I have had a Radiomobile 980 radio sorted out by this Company before and it was very good. However, I have since given them another Radiomobile 980 radio to them in August 2014 and it still hasn't been returned. I have tried contacting them on several occasions by phone and by email to no avail. All I want is my radio back now whether it is fixed or not as the case may be.
