We have been visiting this restaurant for a long time, in fact since they moved from petersfield to ye olde George Inn. We love this place! We have since moved to Oxford but still find time to drop in for arguably the best food, best atmosphere and nicest people!

What a find the day before we were due to go back home! We liked the look of the place when we drove by so booked a table for Sunday lunch. From the moment we walked in (with our large dog) we were made to feel welcome. The staff were friendly and helpful. The sourdough starter and dip was melt-in-the-mouth delicious. Best ever! The mains were served hot and were beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. I can?t recommend highly enough and have just booked to go back to the area in the Summer. Can?t wait!

A great stay, with a fantastic breakfast and a great Sunday lunch......but spoilt by an extremely unfriendly member of staff. The final straw was coming down for a coffee at 10.25am on Sunday to be told that check out was 10.30am [no one had mentioned this previously]. I said Ok, we would drink our coffee, pack and leave. At 10.55 we came down to settle our bar tab and leave......he said it was £75. That seemed high and when I asked for a copy of the bill I saw he had added a late departure charge of £25. When I asked he said we were 25 mins late leaving and it was £25.......ie. £1 a minute!!! Never experienced anything like this before will not be going back.......which is sad because it not a bad place! Just spoilt by a single member of staff.

We were recommended to eat here on a Sunday, so we made the booking, and arrived on a cold Sunday afternoon. The place was packed, but Ian showed us to our table, and very friendly he was to. Food quickly ordered, and 10 minutes later, there it was in front of us. Belly of port, with all the trimmings, and wow, what a delight. The food was exquisite, and plenty of it. We will definitely be back for some more. Many thanks to all the staff.

I was staying at a local B&B and the pub was kind enough to fit me in for dinner. The food was delicious and the service was great!

We were staying in the area, so as it was my husbands birthday and having read such great reviews, we thought we'd give it a try. The decor was lovely, as were the staff. We arrived approx 45 minutes before the kitchen closed. Which might explain why our meal wasn't as good as the reviews stated. Everything tasted and felt like it had been kept for hours in a warmer. The roasted potatoes were so hard that they were inedible. The vegetables were cold. One carrot sliced in half does not equate to a portion of veg. I feel we would have been better off going to a fast food chain. To add to that, it was cold where we sat, with no heating.

South did in an idyllic location. The thickness of the reservations book is a testament to this place's popularity. The beer-battered haddock, with triple cooked chips and minted peas was perfectly cooked. Steak and ale pie was filled to the brim with a rich filling and boasted a fantastic pastry with delicious horseradish mash. It's just getting to that time of year when the fire is set to burn constantly in the corner; had that been on I'd have had great difficulty leaving.Walkability: Walked from the sustainability centre, a 10k round trip.
