Tesco Express in Harpenden: The Worst Convenience Store in Hertfordshire. This is a ONE STAR review of the TESCO Express store at Luton Road in HARPENDEN.\\nI travel all over the UK. And I get to shop in many supermarkets from small convenience shops to the large Tesco Extra stores. And with all that experience and perspective, I would rate this Tesco Express in Harpenden as the Worst Convenience Store in Hertfordshire for the following five reasons:\\n\\nFirstly, consistently unprofessional behaviour by its staff. I have been at the Self Service till when the QR code (and the bar code) of my Clubcard on the app would not scan. I would have to press ?Assistance.? I would be made to waste valuable minutes. This is supposed to be an ?Express.? But, there is nothing going at ?express? mode here. There is not a single Self Service Attendant to serve customers. After tapping for ?Assistance?, I would have to wait as the employee at the kiosk would be on her (or his) phone, surfing online. This Tesco employee would be annoyed that her (or his) fun time is being disrupted by a customer needing assistance. And with a look of frustration and no ?Hello?, she (or he) would come and tell me that it is my phone that is the problem. It is my phone that is preventing the QR code (and the bar code) from being scanned. I use the same smartphone all over the UK. And I do NOT have a problem. It is only at this store that it does not scan. But, the Tesco employee would say I am not holding it correctly! Then, he or she has to scan their Self Service Authorisation bar code to process my clubcard. This is an excellent example of bad customer service. Why not greet the customer, apologise for the delay and the inconvenience? Instead, the staff here blame and patronise the customers.\\n\\nSecondly, poor scanners at the Self Service Tills. When the refit was in progress, we were hoping for new scanners. Instead, they kept the same scanners that fail to scan QR codes (and barcodes) that are on the clubcard apps. Solution: put new scanners such as the ones that are at the Express stores in St Albans and Luton.\\n\\nThirdly, most of the staff who work here are busy talking among themselves, in their own foreign languages. This is really unprofessional and rude. I feel intimidated and uncomfortable shopping here. Why not speak in English? The majority of customers who shop here are native English speakers. And if you are recruited to work for Tesco in England, one expects the employees to be speaking in English. How else can they learn and improve their proficiency in the English language?\\n\\nFourthly, the aisles are cramped and congested. It is uncomfortable to move within any of the aisle without brushing past other customers or staff. Congestion is an expected nuisance of most Tesco Express stores in England. But, at this store, no attempt has been made by Tesco to address this issue during the recent refit.\\n\\nFifthly, Tesco does nothing to solve the anti-social behaviour of the spoilt rich kids who loiter outside this store. It can be intimidating to walk past these groups as they stand there, stinking of cannabis. The teenage girls show off their cleavages to the boys with low-riding jeans. What are the parents doing about this?\\n\\nEverything comes down to better management. I suggest that Tesco?s Regional Manager makes plenty of unannounced visits to this store to check what the regular customers have to endure. Of course, the best solution is a change of management and thus a change in the work culture. But, that would take a long time to implement.\\n\\nStaff get away with bad performance because the majority of the customers are rich middle class liberals with too much money and addicted to virtue signaling. They?ll rush around buying expensive items, jump back into their new Mercedes and Audi SUVs, and hurtle to their £million+ houses. This store had a refit recently. Nothing has changed. This review will not change anything because Tesco's hierarchy does not care as long as they see the numbers they want to see on their scre

The young lady who works there appears to run the place single handedly. In the 10 minutes while I was there she took the rubbish out, sorted the shelves out, picked up rubbish left on the floor and kept going backwards and forwards to the till to serve customers. All done with a cheerful smile. Well done.

A local lifesaver! Opens early, closes late, packs in a lot for a store of this size. Staff always been polite and helpful in my experience.

Very poor customer service from the Asian male rude as he does not need to know anyone?s underline health condition. Very poor attitude not acceptable.

Nothing to shout about, nothing to moan about. It opens until 11pm on a Sunday night so has come to the rescue quite a lot. I don't really talk to people when I go in because I get what I want and go to self service to pay. But when I have spoken to staff they always seem alright.

Very poor .Went here this evening at 9pm specially to buy a copy of The Times. I passed a large pile of different papers by the door including multiple copies of The Times but the manager Amir would not sell me one as they had already put them â??through the system â?? as returns. Very frustrating as they are open till 11pm and presumably these papers will be pulped unread. I went up the road to M and S , no problem.......
