There is something quite wonderful and old worldly about an old school independent hardware shop and this is no different.There is a constant stream of people happy to share advice, opinions and stories related to DIY and trade skills. The exchange I had today relating to metric and imperial weights and measures and had the charm to bring not just my son and myself into conversation but the old timer visiting the shop who could no doubt have been old enough to be my grandfather.The shop has an eclectic mix of regular DIY related items along with some of those different items that you don't know you need until of course you do.Timber and other materials can be cut on site and the helpful and happy staff can order pretty much anything in that you need. It is a little more expensive than a superstore but it's on your doorstep, the tools aren't those from budget lines of cheap manufacturers they are quality and made for purpose and will last.I could quite happily spend an entire day in the shop trading stories and identifying everything I need for those DIY jobs I haven't quite go around to finishing.

My daughter is lucky enough to live almost opposite M & J and I have often bought things here when visiting. The staff have always been very helpful and friendly.EDIT - UPDATE. since writing my original review this company has been taken over. I have downgraded my opinion from five stars to two to reflect the changes.

A treasure trove for your DIY needs. If you only need things in small quantities and not the 10x or 50x that other large hardware stores provide then drop into M&J. Helpful staff and open 7 days a week for those pressing repair jobs.
