Mostly found in the South East of England and London, LA Fitness was a chain of 43 health clubs. With the slogan 'we'll get there together', they had gained the attention of many members and the clubs were doing reasonably well despite the tough competition in the industry. However, this all changed in 2013 and they started to struggle; as people started to save money in a tough economic climate, they began to forgo this mid-market gym and LA Fitness struggled.
In 2014, the lenders actually took over the business before then putting it up for sale in the market. PureGym, originally from Leeds and Manchester, decided to purchase the LA Fitness brand and all 43 clubs. Considering they only started in 2009, this move came as a surprise. With LA Fitness as a mid-range gym, they were actually struggling to compete with PureGym and other budget locations which is one of the reasons why things started to falter.
