The staff were all excellent, the food was tasty, and the location was perfect for my needs. It is an old building with very thick walls, and I so could not get data on my mobile. This didn't matter because the the wifi was free, fast, and easy to access. However, the room was tiny. There was a small wardrobe with a short hanging rail and one shelf. There were no drawers, and no where to put my suitcase. I had to push the bed back in order to sit at the desk. The window was small, and looked out onto a big hedge. This meant that the room was always quite dark, and I had to have the light on even during the day. The light wasn't very bright, but it was better than nothing. I imagine that their next big expenditures will be air conditioning and better plumbing. The shower was hot, but not powerful - especially in the mornings during peak use. There is no air conditioning, and the fan was ineffective. Even without covers it was too hot to get to sleep after hot days. I was unsatisfied, but the hotel said that I couldn't change rooms - even though the other single room(s?) were currently empty. I would have cancelled and gone elsewhere, but they had already put the cost of the full two weeks on my card. I was in room 7, which is sold as a single room but contains a double bed. I would not stay in that room again, but I would book one of the double or family rooms which are bigger.

OK stay, perfectly clean, breakfast very nice. Arrived at 1.45 as had to get to a funeral while waiting to speak to barman as he was serving, I glanced at breakfast menu, the barman barked at me, sorry we don't do all day breakfast, he came across as so aggressive I apoligised for looking at breakfast, then when he was free we said we had booked, again very aggressive he said sorry no booking in till 2 o clock!! A nice lady came up behind him and smiled and said of course we can book you in now, perhaps he was new but definitely not welcoming, Also I asked for an orange juice, it came from a carton, tasted disgusting and was charged £3.09 for the privilege, I left it and we all went to a different pub in the town for an evening meal, (which was packed but friendly) when we returned to our pub /hotel later on it was nearly empty, tells a story!!!

Oh my goodness! we are staying at the hotel, and had dinner at the restaurant, and it was wonderful! The food was fabulous. Some of the best we have had so far on our holiday. Our room is spacious, clean, and very nice. The staff has been fabulous. We couldn?t recommend this place anymore. Hats off to the staff, Elliot, Joe, Bobby, and Tara. They were fabulous!

Visited a couple of weeks ago for dinner. Absolutely fantastic service and great food. All the staff were very attentive and had a great chat with them. Visited again today, and was pleased to say that the review was the same. Great food, chicken and steak fajitas were huge. Staff again were very attentive and cheerful. Excellent, definitely recommend.

We had a lovely meal at the Hartwood Hall. Sam was lovely, very friendly as were all the other staff. I did receive the wrong meal but this was rectified and Sam couldn?t be more apologetic. I received a drink on the house whilst I was waiting. The food was definitely worth the wait! We have never had a bad experience there!

4 of the family went in for lunch my partner ordered Salmon, I ordered katsu curry, my daughter ordered fish and chips, other daughter ordered chicken salad, after 20 minutes the waiter came and said sorry we don't have any salmon left so my partner ordered a 3 cheese and ham toastie with chuckney , Waiter came again and said we have run out off battered fish and the cheese and ham toasties they had run out of ham. Very very disappointed, cheese toastie arrived 2 huge lump of white bread hardly toasted no pickle, mycurry was very poor no taste, certainly will never go again this is the second time in a year and both times very poor run by kids, went to the toilet no lock on toilet door had to keep your foot on the door to keep it closed toilet seat was broken. I think the place is short of a decent manager that care, my advice is keep away and go somewhere else

We visited for a burger meal this week and the food was excellent, freshly cooked and hot. Staff including Elliott and Jenna were very helpful as we had a problem with our Groupon voucher.

We have been frequent customers of the Hartwood for a couple of years now, usually for the purpose of a family Sunday lunch with our young son. Whilst the menu is confined to a chain standard, we have always found it to be good food at affordable prices, with very good service to match. There is a good selection of beers and premium lagers, particularly the Ice Breaker IPA. I?m sure the wine list is suitably extensive enough, although we don?t normally consider it. On Sunday 05/03/2023, we attended with my parents for Sunday Lunch. Expecting the usual solid 7-8/10 meal, frankly, we were stunned at how good it was. I actually had to re-check the menu to satisfy myself that we had ordered the right meals! 4 adults had the sirloin beef with trimmings. It was of the utmost quality. My son had the kiddies roast chicken Sunday lunch. For the adults - substantial thick slices of beautifully roasted, juicy pink sirloin beef. A good array of vegetables was cooked perfectly and presented with care. Tender stem broccoli was exactly that. Fantastic roast potatoes ? light and crisp. The carrots here are the only ones my 8-year old will eat! All the veg was prepared with care, al dente and above all else very tasty. The huge Yorkshire pudding has always been top notch at the Hartwood and that hasn?t diminished in the slightest. I?m annoyed with myself for not taking a photograph of the meal I was served to share with those reading this review. A picture of the completely empty plate at the end would simply have been crass! Service remained at usual high standard and the venue continues to be child-friendly. I enquired as to how things had changed. Despite working within the confines of a chain menu, it is clear that the chef (John) has made every effort to maximise an already good standard of food and elevated it to outstanding. It was noticeable that there appeared to be a higher volume of customers than we were used to seeing and clearly word is getting out. The difference in standard, which I understand has been ongoing these last 2 months or so, can be compared to a lower ranking premier league football team (which, for the money, was more than good enough) now being transformed into a top 4 Champions League challenger. Beyond exceptional food, high on quality and full value. Management, staff and, undoubtedly, chef who is clearly getting the very best out of every ingredient and produce, should take every plaudit. I would expect that standard at perhaps a higher-ranking premium venue, un-restricted in menu choice and, no doubt, at a substantial price to go with it. Really looking forward to our next visit.

Sadly we have tried to eat here 3 times and twice refused a table when nowhere near full but looked under staffed so perhaps reason for thus,However on 3rd visit was meant by a male slouched on reception swiping through his dating app and didnt even look at us whilst informing us they were full. Wouldnt advise anyone to visit here and believe staff turnaround is high

We just stopped by for a quick lunch on a busy (for us) Saturday. We enjoyed a pleasant atmosphere, excellent and cheerful service from Natalie, Bobby & Morgan, and tasty food to keep us going! It's always an enjoyable experience at Hartwood Hall.

Had a lovely meal out for our anniversary, Sam was really helpful, despite there being only a few vegan options, he offered us alternatives off the Christmas menu and was just a generally really great server! Only putting 4 stars instead of 5 because of the limited vegan options, but we can't really complain too much; the vegan camambert and mushrooms was the BEST vegan meal I've had since going vegan!

Been meaning to call in for food for quite a while now as we drive past two or three times a week, made it today and really glad we did. I decided to try the fish and chips as did the wife, only difference I had the curry sauce and peas. Food arrived very quickly, fantastic service, and upon my first mouthful of the fish I was like wow. No exaggeration the best fish I have had in a long time (and I nearly always order fish) the chips were very nice as was the curry sauce (served in a little gravy boat) Very good selection of gin, wife only as I was driving, but the fresh orange was also lovely. I would like to say thank you to all the staff today Elliot, Nat, Aaron and Tara Looking forward too seeing you again.
