I travel a great deal with my business so am used to staying in hotels. The setting of this hotel is stupendous with rolling lawns and the fells in the distance - from the outside it looks impressive. Sadly that first impact waned immediately when stepping over the threshold. The place looked and smelt tired. A hint of dampness purveyed the interior including my bedroom but it was a challenge actually checking in. Nobody was manning reception which seemed odd. The place was deserted & a little spooky. The Shining came to mind! I called out for service and eventually a male member of staff appeared behind reception who told me that I should check in and collect my key not at reception but at the bar down the corridor. Once again, a little odd given that the reception area was in a large lobby area. I went to the bar but nobody was there. Another couple wanting to check in ahead of me were in the bar already looking as bemused as me. I went back to reception but no sign of anyone at all. On returning to the bar a male member of staff had materialised and was now assisting the couple ahead of me. He then checked me in but all this to-ing and fro-ing wasted around 15 minutes! It felt as if the guests were there for the staff and not the other way round. A little bit of Fawlty Towers was creeping in. Before leaving the bar, I was asked what time I would like breakfast the next morning! I was taken aback when I was told I had to specify a precise time! Bizarre question to someone just checking in. Armed with my key I went to my room on the first floor down a dark and long corridor. A very poor room (smelling of dampness) greeted me in terms of style and decor. Very, very tired-looking. A throw-back to the 1970s - Fawlty Towers era of course! Basic white lighting with wobbly wall lights over the rather dodgy-looking bed. The wardrobe was scruffy & looked close to collapse. The rest of the furniture looked similar. The TV didn?t work & nor did the lavatory flush. I had to open the cistern to get it to flush at all. Water wasn?t entering the cistern. I reported both problems in person to one of the male staff members who huffed and puffed at my complaint and made me feel that I was a nuisance - echoes of Basil once again! Breakfast next morning was ok. It was self service. I arrived in the bar area at precisely the time I had to specify the day before & was shown to my rickety table. Cooked breakfast was not hot but luke warm so I skipped this fascinating culinary experience the following morning. Whilst eating breakfast I was approached by a male staff member asking me to specify the time I required breakfast the next day! Very very odd. I stayed at this strange establishment for two nights whilst visiting friends and family in Garstang and that period was quite enough for me. I won?t be staying there on my next visit.

My wife and I had a two night golf break. Course was very wet and we lost a few balls. But it is that time of year. When we arrived there was a sign asking us to go to the restaurant to book in. No big deal. The room was very clean and comfortable. The food was excellent ?. Front of house we were looked after by Ann & Louise. They both were very cheerful and took great pride in their work. A big credit to them both. We will certainly be going back next year.Rooms: Very clean and comfortable .

Many of my fellow guests were made very ill. Someone overheard the staff saying that they found something in the pipes of the drinks that was making people ill. This is disgusting and a serious health hazard. Some of the people made ill were very old and frail.Myself and the other vegans were presented with non vegan desserts. The staff member was not apologetic or compassionate and insisted they were not told we were vegan even though the bride had told them in advance and I had requested vegan butter before any food was served. Luckily I questioned the apple crumble and warned the other vegans but I worry there may have been dairy in the starters and mains which had already been consumed by that point. One of the vegan children was presented with his meal, topped with dairy cheese, so he could not eat it. This is awful service and a serious risk to people's health when they have informed the hotel of allergies and dietary requirements but these were ignored. There was a used spoon and old wrappers on the floor of our room which were not ours. The room had clearly not been cleaned thoroughly before we checked in.It would be great to hear back from management what they are going to do about these serious errors made by hotel staff.Safety: Myself and the other vegans were presented with non vegan desserts. Well, lovely location. Room was OK, but the bed was definitely a disappointment. Mattress was like jelly, any movement sets up waves...Food was very good ; simple but well executed.

Beautiful setting perfect for our friends wedding, The meal after wedding was lovely and also the room was lovely. Our room which we stayed over in had a few problems and they gave us a discount when we checked out. We would recommend this hotel.

There was no one in reception when we arrived so we had to go to the restaurant to get our room key.We stayed in room 24, which was a double and it was a large room but could do with a bit of an update. It was clean but the fixtures/fittings had seen better days. The lights above the bed were wobbly, the toilet roll holder and toilet seat were too.Shower pressure in bathroom was good and there was a hairdryer in one of the drawersThe walls were paper thin and we could hear everything being screamed by the family next door who let their young children run riot until 1am bouncing off the beds and running about crashing into things. Not the hotels fault but still not what you need after a 9 hour drive. There is no air con so rooms were hot. We were too exhausted to ask for whether a fan was available from reception. Although room service isn?t available they will pop food on a tray for collection. The food we did have was good. Breakfast was quick but a little on cold side.Ample parking and there is a lift up to the first floor.

AS A PARTY OF 26 GOLFERS WE COULD NOT HAVE HAD MORE HELP THAN WE EXPERIENCED. BOTH THE HOTEL STAFF AND THE GOLF PERSONNEL WERE MORE THAN HELPFUL IN EVERY ASPECT OF OUR STAY. WOULD DEFINITELY GO BACK AGAIN.

Soulless, staff were nice but running on auto. Room was o.k. Breakfast was a fry up and o.k. If you wanted continental forget it, pastries were minutures that were cooked 6 at a time with a 20 minute wait (if you asked), no bread rolls. Evening meals were rubbish with a limited menu, cheep meat and staff with no personality. The hotel was supposed to be full, yet there were just three tables occupied at 8.00pm. Reception was unmanned for much of the day, check in was at the bar. SOULLESS

Good hotel, with lovely views across the golf course. Good for a over night stop and easy access to the M6

I stayed at the hotel for a wedding, but the non-existant customer service and assistance, lack of information and overall lack of care for guests made it a very poor stay. To start, we had to arrive at 7am to prepare for the wedding, however, there was no offer for assistance or guidance on what we should do with our belongings. When I went to reception to enquire about early "check in" which is 12pm, I was told the cut off was the day before to allow housekeeping to prepare the rooms, in which there was no information that there was a cut off point for early check in. I then had to ask what to do with my belongings as the room we were getting ready in was a public room to be used later in the evening, and I had to hand over my belongings to be held until check in was available at 3pm, which meant staff members had access to all my belongings. That's 8 hours without a room. I had to get changed for the wedding in the bathroom stalls, as the ceremony was at 1:30pm. At 3pm, I was able to check in. I was supposed to be near the bridal party/mother of the bride however they had put me on the ground floor away from them completely, without any warning or reason as to why I had been moved from 28 to 11. I also was left to struggle opening and closing doors with a crutch, and my suitcase and bag, no offers were made for assistance. Apart from a lift, there was nothing visible for accessibility. The room they gave me was also pretty much at the end of the corridor and meant a long walk which is difficult for me. When I reached my room, I struggled with the key cards and had dropped them, wasn't able to pick them up between trying to hold the door open, keep myself balanced and keep hold of my belongings. Once I had made it in through a lot of struggling, I had a quick look in the room and left. It was time for the wedding breakfast and all I can say is the food was very disappointing. None of it had any sort of substance or flavour, and I ended up leaving half of it, the dessert was somehow worse, none of them looked appetizing, and the one I did try was so sickly sweet I nearly choked. After the speeches I headed to my room to get some things, when I rolled my blind down a bit I found a dead daddy long legs flattened on the front of the blind. I also wanted to charge my phone for a bit, however, there were no bedside sockets. The sockets had been placed up in the middle of the headboards, right in the middle of the bed therefore nowhere to rest my phone on. I didn't return to my room until the evening, around 11:30pm/11:45pm, in which there was no one on the reception (even though they are supposedly a 24/7 hotel). I had been awake since 5am so i just wanted to chill out and get some sleep knowing that checkout was by 11am, and breakfast was up until 10am. If you ask me, the hotel works completely backwards in terms of checking in and out. Once I had got myself ready to go to bed, I spent about 10 minutes searching for the tv remote. Then once I got in the bed, which the covers were so tightly and heavily tucked under the mattress it was very hard to loosen, I was too cold. On the phone to my mother I said I would try to ring reception to ask for a blanket, the hotel phone provided had no numbers of reception and when I picked up the phone it was just a dial tone. No information on how to contact reception should you need something. On top of this, it wasn't until then I discovered that the hotel had free public wifi, and I had been using my data all day as there was no visible information to inform that the wifi was freely available. In the morning, I went for breakfast which was very greasy, fatty and not at all nice. overall, it was an extremely poor stay, extremely disappointing, absolutely not worth £105.

Stayed here as I was having a night out in Garstang on Saturday 7th July. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly on check in. Room was huge and comfortable. Breakfast was included and lovely in the morning. All in all a decent stay and would return for my next night out in Garstang.

Nice hotel in a peaceful location. We were made to feel very welcome by the friendly staff. We ate in the restaurant in the evening with some friends who live fairly locally. The food was tasty, our friends particularly enjoyed the pies. Our room was comfortable and overlooked the golf club. Our trip was a golf break purchased for us by our son. We had a tee time booked for the Tuesday morning at 10 we asked if we could start earlier because rain was forecast early in the afternoon. The man in the golf shop was very helpful and said we could go out an hour early. Unfortunately the predicted rain arrived before we finished our round, but we got more than half of it in. Breakfast was excellent with good choices and some local produce. I particularly enjoyed the yogurts from Preston. If we were in the area again we would choose this hotel.
