We walked past Cafe Arden & liked the look of the menu so dropped by for lunch. The cafe is really clean & spacious. It was quiet when we arrived but more people turned up during our meal. We ordered from their £7.50 menu which included a main, a hot or cold drink, & a couple of scoops of ice cream (50p extra for an extra scoop). For the main, we got cod & chips. As for the drink, we got a decaf coffee. We also ordered a beef stew, & an extra scoop of ice cream. Everything came up to £13.95. It was cash only. The coffee was nice but milk was added without first checking. The food took a while to arrive but was freshly prepared & piping hot. The batter on the fish was light & crisp & the chips were freshly fried. The only thing which wasn't great were the peas which were too hard, as if they were undercooked. There was a pot on the side with sachets of sauces & for some reason there wasn't any ketchup. The beef in the stew was really tender but there were more potatoes & carrots than meat. The crusty bread on the side was warm & crisp & lovely when the butter melted on it. The stew was served with beetroot & pickled onions. The ice cream was a welcome end to the meal. We really liked the meals we had at Cafe Arden. We also liked that it is linked to the college which provides courses for those with learning difficulties with the view that experiences gained can help them obtain employment. Based on the quality of the food we had, the place obviously works with & supports very talented people who will do well in the hospitality sector. A visit is defo recommended!

Shame it was very quiet, but a lot of business is at the moment.Place is clean food is cheap so you do get what you pay for.The lady serving did spend most of her time talking in the back and no conversation made with us, which would have been nice to be made more welcoming.

My favourite server is Jamie he is so pleasant & nothing is 2 much trouble for him, the world would be a much better place if there was more Jamie's about. All the servers are a credit 2 you.

Treated myself to breakfast at this cafe. Great service, lovely food. Full English brekkie, quality ingredients, and a bonus point for fresh tomato on the plate, not those tinned ones you find in a lot of places. Not only is it a great meal, it assists youngsters with learning difficulties to get into a career in the hospitality industry. Top marks all round.

Been to Cafe Arden a few times when I've been in Southport and it is run by Students from Arden College a residential college for young adults with learning disabilities. I am a former student of Arden College and I find the food is lovely and the staff are very welcoming and friendly

We arrived in Southport at midday on Monday 28th. We needed to eat and we found The Arden Café by chance. We saw that it is run by students from Arden College. We ordered fish and chips with mushy peas. The chips were gorgeous, the fish wasn't too heavily battered, a problem these days, and the peas were fine. The service was very courteous and friendly. Please use this café. It's lovely.

Simple but well prepared food at a reasonable price, am happy to eat there when visiting Southport. The manageress is efficient and the kitchen staff do a great job. My wife and I are happy in the knowledge that eating there we are supporting Southport college who run the cafe with students who have learning difficulties.

There are many little cafés dotted along the streets of Southport and Café Arden is no different from its rivals. Size-wise it's probably one of the smaller cafes in the area but what it lacks in size, it makes up for with its quality home cooking. Their menu has a small but solid collection of hot and cold snacks as well as more substantial main meals, all of which are well cooked and perfectly good. As always in cafés like this their prices are not unreasonable, meaning you are able to get a drink and something to eat for a small fee. Café Arden has various daily chef specials which are worth checking out when you visit as well as all day breakfasts, morning coffee and afternoon tea specials, all of which represent excellent value for money. The staff there are friendly and efficient, ensuring you're never waiting too long for your food.
