Over the years, the Co-op Group has quickly expanded to become one of the most well-known names in the country. Thanks to continued success and a positive 2017, the group is set to open 100 brand-new food stores thus creating around 1,600 new jobs.
According to a company representative, around £160 million will be invested into the many projects; this includes makeovers at 150 of their existing sites in the UK. In terms of exact locations, over 20 will enter London while 18 will be introduced to Scotland (including Glasgow, Kilmacolm (Renfrewshire), Edinburgh, and Forres (Highlands). Elsewhere, stores are also expected in Nottingham, Chesterfield, Crewe, York, Southampton, Blackpool, Bristol, Plymouth, Leicester, and Manchester.
For the company as a whole, it seems to be a positive time after they recently announced an agreement with Costcutter Supermarkets Group which sees it become the exclusive wholesale supplier for over 2,200 stores in the UK. What's more, they were also approved by Nisa Retail in their bid to take over the convenience retail company. Although it hasn't yet been approved by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), the group is hopeful of the deal going ahead to cap off a successful 2018 already.
