5 Ongoing Developments Currently Taking Place in Devon

Devon is currently packed with developments from a lot of big names. From Ikea, the world's leading store in home furniture, to housing estates.

Below we have put together 5 of the biggest developments which are currently taking place in Devon right now.

Ikea - Exeter

Even though Ikea is undoubtedly the biggest furniture brand out there, it's of the most difficult stores to find no matter where you are. For the people of Devon, finding an Ikea and getting their hands on some furniture (or even a plate of Ikea's popular meatballs) is about to get a lot easier.

The brand will be expanding their store to a new location in Exeter and will provide sales to thousands across the Devon area.

According to Ikea, this new store will bring over 350 new jobs to Devon and will have around 1,000 parking spaces (including both disabled and motorcycle parking).

Anchorwood Bank - Barnstaple

The Anchorwood Bank development is set to be one of the biggest residential and real estate developments in the North Devon area in a long time.

There is already an Asda store there and a new housing estate is to be built in later years.

With this new development, Devon will see up to 172 new properties - including mostly homes, but also with shops and restaurants.

There have already been some big brands confirmed to be interested in expanding their businesses to the area including Frankie and Benny's, Chiquito, Next, and even a DFS.

North Devon Homes have partnered with Pearce Construction and Wessex Investors or the redevelopment and are yet to announce an expected date for the completion of the site.

Devonshire Park - Paignton

With the redevelopment of the site which was previously home to Nortel, Paignton will see over 255 new homes as well as several retail properties, as well as multiple restaurants.

There have been rumours of some popular brands seizing the opportunity of this retail expansion to Paignton, including The Range, Pets at Home, and possibly even Lidl.

Byron - Woolacombe

Since the Narracott Hotel closed its doors over a decade ago, this site has remained empty and has been awaiting a development company to seize the opportunity. It has been described as a "prime development location", yet only recently has the opportunity been taken.

Byron will be located on this site and will host over 50 apartments, as well as a restaurant, a bar, and a swimming pool.

There will also be a range of swimming pools with water features, as well as hot tubs, beauty treatment services, and even a restaurant which will be run by Graham Brundle (a chef who has worked alongside celebrities such as Richard Branson).

Developers have stated that the site will be complete and open later in the year.

Marsh Mills Retail Park - Plymouth

This new retail park is set to be developed as a retail and leisure park, and will include places such as a KFC (with a drive-thru), Mothercare, Tapi, Wren, Sofology, and even a Costa Coffee.

You will be able to find this retail park at the previous location of a Novotel hotel, which was shut down years ago and was demolished as of 2014.

The company behind this redevelopment of the area, Ediston Real Estate, bought the retail park in February of 2016 and bought it for £6.1 million. It is said to be open later in 2017.
