There wasn?t a table free in the competitors venue. So, we walked by and headed to the Crown. Lots of cars outside and no doubt a scrabble to park in any season, let alone March. Inside was immediately warm. The bar had a few guests within it and the bar was manned by one team member that was more than able to cope. Even with the occasional episodes created by a crashing till.We found a seat by the fire with the angry sign reading: ?Do not touch the fire?. A shame really as a roaring fire (or any fire) would have been just the ticket here, even beyond the obvious warmth that was already present. We disrobed and headed to the bar we dodged our way past other guests that pickled the pathways around the randomly (if heavily) populated furniture ?showroom? and made our order. Now, I personally did not order the first round and therefore was unaware of the pricing structure here at the Crown but I did get the second round and I am currently plotting a significant ?job? where I can repay the Bulgarian national debt that was needed to buy two Guinness, a Baileys, a coffee and a 175ml wine and soda. (£35ish!!). You have been in this scenario where one tries to work backwards the Individual pricing? for the sake of time, letters and sanity.. I will let you do that. Whilst I plan the job regardless! In the bookcase opposite I note a tv screen that shows a rotation of arty ?foodporn?. Some local pictures festooned in sepia and some very old advertising that frankly wouldn?t be allowed in the modern day. I am not sure I saw the relevance of all the slides but it filled the time as I stretched out the drinks to avoid the third abuse of one of our money holders. The toilets were clean, the decorations were good and entertaining (even the silk map above the urinal showing the local area and its war style access points). Some lights were out in the closed restaurant. I suggest a lack of 50ps for the meter were the cause. I can only assume the till was full of notes and card receipts based on my own short reconnaissance. Also, if you charge these prices make sure everything is perfect. Tables cleared immediately, chairs reset, bathrooms checked regularly and much more besides. Then the price pales a little against perceived value. Blah, blah?Hey look, we liked our visit and may have stayed longer if the pricing was inviting. However, that?s the crux of these modern times isn?t it? The venue ?may? be great, the fayre ?could? be stunning but if the abiding perception is about the price then something has obviously gone wrong, hasn?t it? Maybe next time..

Great hotel to stay for a one or two night getaway. Staff are friendly, nice breakfast and rooms and very nice. It?s lovely and quiet here. I?d come again.Walkability: 5 mins from seafront area.

Just visiting for dinner- therefore cannot review rooms. The most outstanding thing about this hotel is the very high prices for food and drink with some food quality being off the beaten track. Although the service was good, prices and food quality are what really count. Usual sky high prices for wine but good selection and quality. Layout of tables poor - too close together- not comfortable. Pot luck parking poor. Hazardous steps. Overall would not visit again or recommend.Food & drinks: Just too expensive for the quality.

Didn't stay here but had drinks in the bar. Lovely decor and located in a charming sq, from what I can tell the rooms are amazing so definatly want to stay here and try the menu sometime in the future. Staff were very friendly and the town has the most amazing g beach and harbour front.

Ouch! We popped in for a drink. £16 for a medium glass of wine and a pint.Afterwards went a few hundred yards away - £11 for the same round.Save your money, people. When you walk into a shop, prices are generally advertised. A pub? Not unless you ask.We probably should have guessed by the one other person in there.Essentially it's a "boutique" hotel and it seems like that is reflected in their prices.

Starting with the good; the food was hot, quickly served and very tasty so why only a 3 rating. The staff were efficient but lacked personality and with only 3 other tables in use, dinner was a bit soul less. Also, I do object to having the table next to me sprayed and cleaned in the middle of my meal and as we were still eating they were laying for breakfast. I assume they were keen to get home.

Visited twice in Aug 23, once to have a drink in the bar and book a table for dinner and again to have dinner. The staff are very accommodating, ensuring a table was available on the date and time that suited us during what was a busy time for them. Drinks at the bar were served with a smile and the Aperol Spritz's were great. Dinner was superb, served in what appeared to be an old Library. I found one book, awarded to a young boy for "good attendance and behaviour" in 1906. A fascinating place. Again, the waiters and waitresses were excellent. The price of dinner is at the higher end so to speak but it's well worth the money. Thanks and we would love visit again soon.

A nice pub in a nice location within Wells-next-to the Sea. Prices are competitive. A nice well kept pub with friendly staff. A better choice of pub if you have children or you want a quieter place for a drink compared to other pubs just around the green. The pub is clean and well maintain with a feeling of history about itFood & drinks: Good choice of drinks.
