“shelves a little bare but still the cheapest shop in town from their small food range. always lower priced than town shops and supermarkets. staff can be short tempered and occasionally rude with lack of product knowledge but overall good service.”

“Best shop on Birchy by far, don't know what you're walking into and it makes shopping trips extra fun, one day it could be a quiet one, the next some smackhead upset about their gyro screaming at you whilst you're trying to work out if the Mrs wants Maryland cookies or kitkats. Though this sounds threatening the locals are actually rather friendly when approached, just don't give them any money.Staff are brilliant at what they do, be that catching shoplifters or switching from shelves to tills with ease. Nothing but friendly as they always have the decency to greet you upon entry, deals left right and centre as opposed to Farmfoods most recent little inflation. All in all I have to say this is one of the best Herons, if not THE best Heron in the world, what they may not make in sales they make up for in character and personality, so I make my point that everyone at some point in their life, must visit this Heron and experience a true Heron shopping experience.Thank you again to the wonderful members of staff for the service you provide, I will again fight to ensure you are all equipped with efficient PPE for the workplace (stab proof jackets and CS spray)You're all amazing people”

“I visited the Whale Hill Supermarket twice yesterday. I was able to find everything I wanted on each visit. Initially to purchase coffee and muffins. On my second visit before I travelled home for Milk and frozen foods. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Once I'm living locally I will definitely be a regular customer. Thank you Iceland at Whale Hill Shops.”

“Good store with lots of variety, plenty of good deals and really nice staff that treat all their customers with respect, I spoke to one gentleman/staff member behind the till, the other day and he told me how strongly he feels about giving customers a premium level customer service with positivity and I could tell how passionate he was getting with each word he spoke, he handled something for me that he diddnt have to, I'd say what it was but I'm afraid if I did then someone else might try and take advantage. But this is a great store, my only problem with it is not their fault, and thats parking, as theirs nowhere to park so you normally have to drive up the side street to find a spot where your not blocking anyone's driveway, the huge walkway outside of the shop (also there's a row of other shops including a takeaway/Chip Shop) would be better if it was turned into parking spaces for the shops only. But don't let that put you off, it'd a great store and we'll worth nipping in for it variety and size ?”

“Staff are polite and helpful but remain professional. The selection of food is amazing. I have found the meals such as roast beef dinner and the breakfast is just the size I need. The offers are good. I love this place”

“It's okay, nothing special. The choice is limited but is enough to be getting along with. Their own brand stuff is fairly reasonably priced. Layout was a bit strange but found stuff without too much issue. Staff were helpful and polite.”

“Excellent value for money, lots of good food options. Decent size shared car park. Good access from Ladgate lane, near cargo fleet, and near other shops, fuel station, etc.”

“Absolutely amazing supermarket, what I liked about it was the price of what I came to buy, it was so affordable as compared to a local store I checked at before coming to Iceland supermarket. It's always good to browse around a couple of outlets before making a decision on a product you want to buy, cus you may just get a lower price at the next shop ??”

“Always a good variety of stock, prices are excellent, what's not to like!Disappointed that Heron's prices have gone up quite substantially recently, much like everywhere else. There is still a good bargain to be had though and I do always find the staff very friendly and helpful.”

“Next choice besides Lidl as both give excellent value and choice in all sections. Have long since fallen out with major retailers as they seem to think they have a right to bamboozle shoppers with false advertising claims regarding savings.”

“The food, vegetables, household cleaning items, were so so affordable. I was amazed and they had deals. Couldn't find a 50 litre garbage bin and and an air dryer for clothes. It would have been a win if I did.”

“We go here a lot as our closest shop selling day to day essentials (banannas etc). Its a lovely concept and as long as you stick to their standard £4 shop (where you get 12items of things like baked beans, dry pasta etc) its good value. Its ran as a charity, but you wouldnt really know that as a customer, it doesnt have the feel of a food bank, theres no stigma to going, which is great. At times this place feels very uncharitable, you can 'pay it forward' for customers who cant afford their £4 shop, something I've done a few times, but every time Ive had a customer in the queue ahead of me having card after card declined, scraping round for coppper to pay, Ive never seen this be offered or advertised. When Ive challenged staff about it ive been told its because people take the mick, which I'm sure they do, but I dont think thats an appropriate attitude to take and struggling customers need to be given the benefit of the doubt. They also are prone to pricing their paid for items a bit unfairly. A 25pack of nutmeg (morrisons own) size one nappys currently sell for £1 in morrisons (which works out as 4p per nappy). In the grocery, they give out 3 of the exact same nappys for one item, which works out at 11p per nappy. Almost 3 times the price of morrisons themselves. The same can be said for most the other basics they sell as 'little extras'. A bag of morrisons own sweetcorn is currently £1.69 in morrisons, but the grocery are selling the same bag of morrisons own sweetcorn for £2. Anybody with any sense would walk to heron where its on 3for£3 but the most vulnerable in our society arnt always in a position to do that. It wouldnt bother me so much, but these items are donated to the grocery in good faith, I dont think those donating would approve of such an exploitative approach to pricing certain items. Ive pointed out inflated prices a few times but and the lack of change to any of the prices following my complaints would suggest its intentional. As much as I do have bugbears about the place (dont get me started on their policy to offer chocolate to every child who comes in the shop) it has saved us a fortune while things have been very financially tight for us (mat leave, redundancy etc). You just need to have your smarts about you and not assume that evety item is a bargain when its not. You also need to look pretty closely at what your getting as they can be swines for trying to conceal that foods rotten or that seals have broken etcIf you havent popped in already then Id recommend anyone give it a try. Especially if the cost of living crisis is affecting you.”

“(Translated by Google) Excellent shop. You will find everything you need, sometimes. Well, in general, everything is fine. Especially if you yourself are from Latvia.(Original)Отличный магазин. Всё найдёшь, что нужно, иногда. Ну в общем всё прекрасно. Особенно, если ты сам с Латвии.”

“Good choice of products. Friendly staff but queues can be a little long. The negative is there is no car park just on street meter parking, which is in short supply. The fantastic thing is that your shopping can be delivered straight to your door by Iceland. Overall a good shop with good prices.”

“Generally a good store. Well stocked, clean, tidy and can usually get what I need. Staff are generally ok, friendly and helpful. Prices a little steep but that's what you get for the convenience of shopping local at an express store rather than a big Tesco.”

“You can't beat a Herons for value but sometimes the shops do look a little run down and untidy. I guess it's to be expected with a budget discount store but this Herons was immaculate. Every shelf was full, I didn't see one open box in a freezer which sounds odd but it's quite common to pick something out of a freezer in herons and find the box open. Also there was a member of staff down the isle with soapy water and a cloth wiping all the fronts of the chest freezers. Again this might sound odd or be normal but it's the first time I have seen this happen so thought I'd pop a quick review on to say it was the cleanest and best herons I've been in.”

“Find that most of the staff are very friendly. Although when training new staff would be nice for the training person to actually learn them some manners when serving customers I witnessed this today”

“Somehow Alot bigger inside that it looks from the outside, nice staff, good deals, especially if you have your Nectar Card handy. Inside the shop the staff are very friendly, the whole are was clean and I found My way round very easily, theirs also an Argos Inside which is quite useful to those with an argos card too. Prices are average as expected, nothing special, however the kindness of the staff and their Commitment to the store is why I gave this a 4 as opposed to a 5 star, i will update if I spend more time but this time I only had a few items, self service was quick, there's a toilet on the premises and disabled bay parking, however between certain times you have to PAY to Park at sainsburys (if your stay is longer than 30 minutes) this is what the security told me but I went in 10 minutes before closing so i was fine. Not really sure how these reviews work so il just say this: Try and keep a few coins spare incase you do have to pay for parking, 2x £1 coins and 2x 50p coins should do it.Stay safe out there my brothers and sisters from boro”
