We would definitely return to this hotel. It had everything that we needed. The bathroom was gorgeous and the shower was great! Love the idea behind the themes with each room. We stayed in the pink monkey puzzle room. We will stay in another next time!

Visited Whitby for my partners birthday. We enjoyed a two night stay in one of the top floor rooms. The room was beautifully decorated. Comfortable beds very powerful shower and a cute view of the sea and the Abby. Our first night was spoiled by the couple in the adjoining top floor room coming back late clomping around in heals and arguing in to the early hours. Because of the wooden floor boards running across both rooms it sounded like they were stomping around in our room all night. Not the owners fault at all but it wasn?t great. On the whole we really enjoyed our stay. A couple of suggestions we have is that some coasters in the room would be useful as we had to use tea bags to avoid marking the nice bedside tables. Also for £150 a night we felt a nice gesture would of been to include breakfast at the cafe downstairs. That said we would return the location and facilities were really great.

It?s a bit of a trek uphill but worth every step if you fancy something different from average hotel chains. We got entrance codes the day before we arrived and all worked well so as we arrived early we had breakfast in the restaurant/cafe downstairs before going for a walk round The breakfasts are different but have to recommend the scoresby, the hash ore the granola bowl; all amazing especially the hot sauce, strangely it works. We stayed in the Maharajah room on top floor which was big with beautiful views over the town to the sea and abbey and was spotlessly clean with everything needed. Loved our stay and would definitely return ?

The vegetarian brunch options were delicious, particularly the omelette. Really good quality and healthy food choices. Interesting relaxed and quirky interior. Nice friendly service. Will definitely return and highly recommended!

The veggie hash was delicious, staff friendly and helpful. Great service. Quirky and delightful decor. Wish the hot sauce wasn't a secret recipe, fabulous. Oh and dog friendly, couldn't ask for more. Be back next year

What a lovely quirky boutique hotel. Check in easy. Parked easily in the W Zone. Access building and room with a code. Nice size mini fridge. Stayed in the St Hilda Suite on the 3rd floor. Sat in the roll top bath looked to the left and you're looking at the Abbey on the hill. Great decor and attention to detail in this room. It is a remote hotel with no reception but Zoe the owner sent a message to make sure everything was okay. Would highly recommend this hotel.

What a wonderful hotel. We stayed in St Hildas room. Bed is so comfy and bathroom was gorgeous. Shower is fantastic. Lovely view from window of the Abbey ruins. Can tell a lot of thought and love has gone into making this hotel the quirky individual place it is. Will definitely stay here again on a return visit to Whitby.

What a gem of a place! Lovely location on trendy Skinner Street (not far from the whale bone arch) with some lovely bars nearby. 10 mins and you?re by the waters edge. Easy check in with the door codes. Room was beautifully decorated with a very comfy bed, amazing shower and tea and coffee facilities. Room was a bit warm but a fan was provided which was great. Zoe was a brilliant host and made sure we were comfortable and all was well. We would stay again but will try out one of the larger rooms on the top floor. Thanks for a great stay, a great base for exploring Whitby and all it has to offer!

Having read some reviews on line I was aware of some of the issues regarding this "hotel". On arrival you do get 1hr parking outside the hotel (if you can actually park outside) before you have go and find a "W" zone to go and park in, there is a map in the entrance vestibule but it is dated Nov 2018. And I wasn't overly confident it was still accurate. Anyway a parking space was located quite some distance away. Once in the hotel our room (The Maharajah of Mulgrave) was on the 3rd floor, accessed by climbing 3 flights of stairs....the last of which is quite steep and narrow (this was mentioned in previous reviews) so if you have any mobility issues this might be a problem! The room is spacious, the bed very comfortable but would benefit from a wardrobe (hanging rail only) and a fridge big enough to accommodate a bottle of wine. The one provided is just way too small. Decaf coffee in the room would be nice. ( I have an allergy to caffeine) The bathroom is stylish although if your tall you might have issues due to the slope of the roof. The coffee shop/ cafe on the ground floor is very good, excellent breakfast, just don't take it as read that the opening hours are as advertised! Overall it's a good place to stay sure the parking and stairs are issues that can't be sorted so if you come here you'll just have to accept them. Other reviews have mentioned excessive noise from the seagulls we didn't find this an issue even with the bedroom open overnight. With a wardrobe and a bigger fridge in the room this would be a 5* review

Only went to the cafe but it was so absolutely sensational I'm writing this review as I sit here. Incredible food, delicious coffee, lovely people, and a really atmospheric location. Will definitely be back!!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay the room was beautifully decorated, immaculately clean and very comfortable. This is an unmanned hotel but the communications were timely and very clearly written, so we had no issue checking in or getting parked. The hotel provided a parking permit for the duration of our stay - so no cost and we were parked within a 5 minute walk of the hotel each day. We were in the Robin Hood?s Pillar room - which is a small room and only has a velux window - but despite this it was light and airy and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom has a good shower. The hotel was fantastically quiet at night and the only outside noise comes from the seagulls but if you keep the window shut you don?t hear them at all. The cafe downstairs does great coffee too!

Nice little place to stay, very clean. Even tho it?s not manned they still check on you to make sure everything is ok. Great location, parking a little tricky but that comes natural with the style and location of the town but persistence will pay off.

Stayed here over three nights in April for Her birthday. Beautifully decorated, a great location and a unique cooler than cool theme. Personally I adore wrought iron radiators, wooden floors, original wooden slat windows, exposed bricks, copper piped bathroom fixtures and with a SUPER powered shower too! (makes me sad to return home to our drippy version). All the amenities you'd want and like, quality tea/coffee facilities, hairdryer etc. Nice cafe underneath too, yummy dishes but would be mega if a breakfast came with the free coffee though ;) In conclusion, very happy, you could do a LOT worse and we definitely would return.
