Very poor service and signage. We asked for advice about walking poles. The person we asked was polite but utterly clueless. We ended up getting help from a fellow customer who was kind and happened to be knowledgeable. There was a sale on but it wasn't at all clear what price anything was. The times we took did to the counter to find it wasn't the price we thought. This was because items were hanging on the wrong displays and in one case due to very small print in a sign that we'd missed. The staff were not helpful and not once did they apologise for the confusion and inconvenience. Paul, who seemed to be a manager, complained about how hard they'd worked the previous day repricing things. We ended up not making a purchase and taking our business elsewhere because it was impossible to know what anything actually cost. Go Outdoors York's loss was Ultimate Outdoors Skipton's gain. The only reason this is two stars instead of one is that a couple of members of staff were at least polite and professional. Paul was by far the worst.

My husband purchased two camping tables. He noticed a garden lounge set , reduced from £1200 to £249.He came home telling me about it so we went back to buy it.I was told there weren?t any in stock and they weren?t allowed to sell the display model. This had come from head office. Now head office can send as many messages as they like to the shop floor but it?s the people facing the public who are getting all the flack!I asked to see the manager , he was lovely and understood where I was coming from when I said why have something on sale if you haven?t any stock and can?t sell the display model. He took my name and number and said he?d have it packaged for me two days later.I thought he was fobbing me off and would phone to say he couldn?t sell it, but the next day Robin called and asked if I?d like to go for it !My husband went and said the staff couldn?t have been nicer , even hunting out a cover for the chairs! Then Andrew helped him carry it out and packed it in the car .A 5 * service from all at Go Outdoors YorkSue Smith , Teesside

It is a medium-large store and appeared to have a good selection for everything outdoors. We looked at camping chairs, waterproof jackets, clothing and small day-rucksacks. Staff on the floor and at the checkout were super friendly and helpful. The issue we had was the prices displayed. A membership card has to be paid for (£5 a year) to get the items at the prices shown, which I feel is very misleading.

Sally let the side down.We visited the store on Good Friday at around 16:00, it wasn?t very busy, the staff were recovering the merch from the day?s trade, we wanted to visit the erected tents in the back of the shop as recommended by a member of staff, to quote the team member ?we have a myriad of tents on show?I have to say, it was disappointing as it was made out to be something spectacular, anyhoo? we found a fantastic bargain of an ex-display tent, we huckled Jack and asked a few questions regarding the non-returnable label on the tent, I asked about the statutory rights should it be faulty, he wasn?t sure? enter ?supervisor? Alex, seemed nice enough though alittle clueless, we later found out that he was new to the job.So, bargain sought and we asked to get the tent, Jack jumped to the challenge, grabbed his battery drill and sped off. We continued shopping for 30 or so minutes, to then be approached by Jack stating that the ?Manager? claims that the store is too busy to break-down the tent and it was company policy to get customers to return at a later date to collect the tent, we would have been super fine with that, had they not left us for half an hour before letting us know.We asked to speak to the manager as we don?t live locally to the store, apparently, she wasn?t available as she had just left. Some words were exchanged with Alex, and we tried our luck with the old being inconvenienced and can you do anything for us, Alex offered 10% though had to get authorisation, presumably from the manager that left site.Long story short, Sally the ?Manager? is a disgraceful leader who delegates her team mates to do her dirty work, putting them in positions that the manager should be dealing with, misleading customers about? well, blatant lies. A pragmatic leader, leads from the front Sally! Brand standards and company values should be lived and breathed across the board, not when it suits because it?s almost closing time.Jack, you are the man! Keep the Customer Service torch alive, you would have moved mountains and we could see that, Alex? some more training is needed on the business acumen, hopefully NOT from Sally whos best suited for carousel trade in Starbucks.Overall, not impressed with Go Outdoors, will we return?....

We went because of the great discounts advertised and were not pleased to discover at the till that you needed a discount card to actually get the discount. Won't go there again.

What you would expect from a retailer of outdoor goods. This store has a customer toilet so a bonus. Not all do. Staff are usually pretty good at helping you and there is a good variety of stock and generous sale items. Marked down as it's always too warm in this particular store especially if you're trying coats/jumpers etc on. Otherwise, a good store.
