“Lots of variety and cheaper than the other mainstream supermarkets, make sure you time your visit well otherwise you'll be swamped at the queue (before 5pm and sundays are generally hectic)”

“Would like to say thank you to the nearly 19 year old Electrician. Not only did he empty my trolley but packed my bags then put them in the car. Not often you see Custmer Service of this standard but a 10 put of 10 on my first visit and not my last x”

“I was informed of self checkout by woman sorting the papers at the checkout Fri 21st April 2023 approx. 8.15pm and told her I don't use self checkouts as it takes peoples jobs so whilst humming she scanned my few items as slow as possible and gave me my change as slow as possible so I hummed along back. It's your job I'm protecting woman and I don't get paid for doing the cashiers job so please stop as-king and just do your job.5 Stars for the man who has worked there since the Spar days (30+ years) is great, friendly and helpful and the other two women also, one who has also worked there since early Spar days.”

“Brilliant. Stocked my freezer up. Enjoy shopping here. I usually do an online order but was able to visit the store on this occasion, which is good to do now and then. The only negative was the person at the till was miserable, didn't smile and there was no conversation and looked like she wasn't enjoying her job!”

“Peter is the only reason I am prepared to shop at this store. He is the kindest staff member I have ever met in any shop. He helps make me feel part of the community. He is so happy and charming. He deserves to be the manager of this store. He goes out of his way to greet my family even if he is not serving us. Give the man a promotion or even a raise.”

“Just pop over to Fulford Road, York, today for my weekly shop.Like others I suspect, when queuing at checkout, look out for cashier that goes that bit further.Got served by the mature male who always has a pleasant greeting, and uses good sense so it is possible to pack goods without feeling it’s been a horrendous challenge. He told me that he has reached the age of 65, and is retiring at the end of the week.On behalf of myself and no doubt many other customers, thank you, and have a long and happy retirement.”

“I have always found this store to be well stocked, staff helpful & pleasant.I was on my way to the postbox close by today, my little dog was with me. I had a fall outside the store, in a flash staff members were there for me, they were so kind and helpful, they were stars. That meant so much to me. Thank you so much ladies.”

“Not the biggest of home bargains, which means it doesn't stock the biggest selection of things I've seen before, but it uses its space well and all the shelves are well-filled.The staff are friendly, there are always enough around so if you need help, you will be able to easily find someone. The store is typically clean and tidy. There can occasionally be long queues at the checkouts as there's never normally more than 2 checkouts open.”

“I would like to tell the branch manager what an exceptional member of staff you have in a lady called Dawn who works in the York Vangard cafe. I have watched her many times, she is so hard working, never stops and is always so lovely, helpful and cheerful. A massive asset to your company.\\nThank you Dawn”

“Not been in to Sainsburys for ages , so after finding my Nectar card I thought why not, and glad I did ! The new Nectar prices were really good, and on things that I actually buy , usually from a rival supermarket, the quality is a notch up. Will definitely return”

“A pretty average sized supermarket that stocks a wide range of daily essentials, as well as seasonal products and luxuries. The store is generally clean and tidy, the quality of stock is good, but the prices can be a bit of a scam.A lot of products have been raised drastically in prices, only to be offered at the price they were 2 weeks prior to nectar card holders only. If you don't have a nectar card, you will be paying well over the odds for your shopping..”

“Amazing staff Nicola and Jane spoke so in depth about our tour around the Ings. They were very knowledgeable about the area, and what to look for. I must say I had a amazing time and the birds we saw was beautiful. The store stocked fully to my needs, but I can't stop thinking about the little path very slightly off the Beaton track that Jane and Nicola told me about. It was amazing and I will certainly return for some more inside information. Well done girls”

“2nd time now I've got home to find I've been given wrong Tobacco weights. Asked for 2x50g Gold Leaf and get 1x30g and 1x50g yet charged for 2x50g packs. 1st time was opposite way around but they sorted it out. Get a receipt and double check tobacco weights before leaving store although Managers and Cashiers should be scanning each item for Tobacco and not trusting their own selection process. Sometimes items are incorrectly priced so once again get a receipt and double check but it is my favourite local store still and great staff as long as they're not masked depriving their own bodies of oxygen just cos the Gov and Tel-lie-vision Program Channel-ers told them to :-)Bananas also taste weird so best avoid and get from Tesco, Aldi or Local Fruit Shop on Bishy Road”

“My husband and I had breakfast at The Pavement Marks and Spencer in York on 25th August '21.\\nThe staff, Courtney, Sophie and Steph were all lovely.\\nI cannot eat food containing wheat or gluten. And when I asked if the sausages where gluten/wheat free, they went out of their way to find out, bringing to us the food allergens list allowing me to see for myself. As it happens they use gluten/wheat free sausages, which is great. Because of cross infection they actually brought me a pack of four GF bread buns and said that we could keep them with no extra charge as they were not allowed to handle them.\\nI'd like to say a big thank you for being so helpful, understanding abs obliging. This doesn't happen very often. Next time we're in York, we will revisit!”

“A great local shop, with friendly staff and have almost all of your daily essentials. The products are slightly higher priced because it’s the only shop around for some miles but and overall good shop.\\nIt has a post office inside too along with a cash machine and a place to purchase warm sausage rolls, pies and fresh scones and cakes.”

“Plenty of choice ....staff especially the guy on the till ...always polite ...I know it isn't a fair comparison but the Napolina grated Italian 50g cheese ...is £2:49....at the CO OP....it is 69p at BandM....(just saying )”

“Tesco Express obviously alot smaller than Tesco Extra. This makes the prices higher. Generally the store is always clean and tidy and is well stocked but you can definitely not get the full range as the big Tesco. The staff are always helpful at this particular establishment which I find important in my reviews. If the staff are bad it generally puts me in a bad mood for the rest of the day.”

“Even for me I'm in secondary school I love co-op I love the food there I go there to get meal deals a lot when um hungry , they have a whole range of food , also I love what they have done to the place it's all tidy and I love the new black colour now , and when me and my dad are there i always ask him for watermelon aha , all except that it's an amazing shop :).”

“The staff are great in here good choices in store, and for the people that are moaning about the prices small shops like this don't have the buying power of the big supermarkets, if you look around the store they always have offers on ,”

“Great little shop, prefer it to the bigger one.Professional and attentive staff, clean, well stocked. Said to be expensive, but get a Co-op card and buy their own branded goods and you get money back on your shop, plus a donation to a charity of your choice at no cost to you. Win win situation”

“Tesco Express in York is much bigger than you first imagine from the entrance as it goes back quite some distance. It is clean, bright and well maintained with plenty of the usual items you would expect to find in a Tesco Store. There was a large wine cooler with a decent selection of ? wine to choose from. The staff are friendly and helpful.”
