Lovely central clean hotel staff lovely but extremely disappointed inwifi as only half hour free then £3 for 24hrs which in scheme of things isn't too bad but if you're only in your room to sleep as out being a tourist then not good at all I've not stayed in any hotel for years that charge for WiFi so on that note would not stay again

Affordable accommodation in a central location. The room was clean, comfortable and equipped with everything we needed for our one night stay. Erin on reception was friendly and welcoming upon arrival. The greatest detractor was Weatherspoons next door. On a warmer night when I would have liked the window open the noisy drunkards cheering, shouting and screaming from the pub below is very, very disturbing. Closing the window helped with the noise a little but not entirely and of course meant discomfort because of the temperature instead. Consider this carefully when booking, especially if you have young ones. A fan was available in the room to help with the warmth.Rooms: Clean, comfortable and suitable equipped for a short stay.Walkability: A short walk from the city centre and local attractions.Noteworthy details: The hotel doesn't have a car park but does have an affiliate discount with nearby Barbican carpark - see Travelodge website for details.

Honestly I was nervous about arrival when reading the negative reviews, but I honestly don't understand the complaints. We were either extremely lucky or just expected the standard based on a budget price. For the people complaining about early hours noise from Wetherspoons beer garden, it shuts at 11pm promptly, our room was directly over the beer garden, and we never had any noise. The only thing that woke me up were some naughty honking geese at 5am from the river! The river view and castle was lovely on a morning. The room was clean, nicely prepared, a good shower pressure and comfy bed. Love the close walking distance from the city centre. Staff were very friendly and allowed us to store bags before check in.Would definitely stay here again. My only complaint would be lack of smart TV and the fact WiFi is only free for 30 minutes. But for the price and how long we were in the room, you can't complain!

I have stayed in many Travelodges over the years, and this was definitely the best one I have ever stayed in. Staff efficient and polite. Room was nice and clean. Only odd thing was building shook when a bus drove past.

Location is pretty good, not too far from the centre and things to do. Spoons underneath making it easy for food. Service wasn't great but not terrible. The room however... grim, cobwebs all over the ceiling, dust mounting up in areas, stains on the carpet, chewing gum under the bed and stained towels that had to be changed. Then we move into the bathroom. Absolutely disgusting, just looked like it had been skimmed over. The bath however, looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years, how yellow could it get? Same goes for the walls. The sink a little gritty. Had to cleaned the bath before use.

It's a nice enough hotel but I wouldn't recommend paying for the quiet floor because it isn't quiet, I payed the extra and all you can hear is doors slamming all night even though the rooms have easy glide doors and what sounds like a hoover. The building work on the whetherspoons down stairs was being done till 9pm and starting at 7am which isn't legal so that wasn't good either, the website should have said about the Whetherspoons on the website when you book. The staff on front desk that I interacted with seem nice so can't fault the staff, unless the private door facing the rooms upstairs are staff slamming then can be faulted but it is irritating because it's all night long. Only fault with the room was there was a big ball of black hair wrapped around the plug chain which the plug wasn't attached to and the coffee machine had a used coffee in it so not big issues.

Had an accessible room that was definitely not accessible. The bathroom had a step into and out that a wheelchair user couldn?t use independently. There was no turning space in the room and had to reverse everywhere. And the shower was in a bath which was not possible for a wheelchair user to use. The floor was carpet that was very hard to roll across and just stunk of dog. The accessible rooms are directly above weatherspoons which was thankfully shut in our visit but normally would probably be horribleThe receptionist was very lovely though but only good part.

Nick and a chap on reception really helpfull, but for the next three weeks room extreemly noisy from 8am to 5pm building work on weatherspoons 15ft away from bedroom window.Room cleaning service needs to be looked at very poor, top up room hangers ignored had to keep asking reception and passing staff for clean towels teas/coffee they would bring them not remove dirty mugs or towels or coffee holders last day ended up with 5 holder, 8 mugs, and a pile if wet used towels in the bathroom. Reception seemed quite shocked when I told them.Nearby activities: Short walk to town centre, and minster, this was the purpose of our visit

Pleasant staff. Bare bones rooms. Noisy outside. Some noise at night rowdy guests inside. Hard beds. Towels available at desk with hair dryer and fan. No air con. Guests will either freeze or roast. No waste baskets emptied mid visit. And be aware, NOT ACCOMMODATING TO CHANGE reservation dates by one or two days without steep $50 fee. I was not pleased.

I never complain but this was the worst hotel stay ever and the Travelodge service is really poor - we found someone?s underwear in our room, very low amount of toilet paper which didn?t last one night , for three of us only two towels and a hand towel and no bath mat, broken curtain rail also, and then reception staff who did not leave a message for the manager about state of the room. We had booked for two nights and checked out after one to go to the holiday inn across the road ( which was £65 cheaper for that night and a lovely modern friendly stay ) - but the Travelodge reception staff could not deal with refunds and gave me a customer services number to ring . The customer services team are not available on Sundays and then the answer message from the Monday until today does the normal spiel on when busy long waits and then said currently experiencing technical difficulties and pushed to digital . I rang their booking line and funnily enough that got answered by a human who tells me customer services no longer answer phones - all digital / on line . So I?ve gone through the rigmarole of online complaint and refund request and they are saying 5 days to deal with it . I had another Travelodge booking next week for two nights I have cancelled and I?ll not use them again I do not recommend staying there

Having read a few on the more recent reviews, I feel disappointed for this hotel and its brilliant staff. We stay here every time we visit York, as it?s very handily placed for everything and is great value. We stayed this weekend and knew in advance that there was to be works taking place at the adjoining Wetherspoons (I knew this, having read it on their website, whilst booking directly with them). These works were barely noticeable and didn?t start early either. The room was comfortable, clean and had a lovely view. This hotel does not have any dedicated parking but does have a deal with the nearby QPark car park, which makes it great value. Arguably there are nicer, and much more expensive places to stay in York but it?s comfy, warm and does what it needs to and we?d rather use that extra money in the shops, cafes, pubs and visitor attractions instead.

The staffs were very nice and friendly. They are so helpful to us. They guided us to the places in York. The location is very nice for travelling. You can walk to the city centre in about 10 minutes and it?s also near the city wall. The hotel is next to whetherspoon so it?s also nice place to have a beer.

Excellent location, clean hotel and pleasant staff would definitely use again situated next to a Wetherspoons which was being refurbished on our visit , but great location for town and if going to the Barbican 10/10

I wasn't informed at booking that there were major building works going on at the pub joining the Travelodge. There was an apology sign at reception, but by then it was too late- with that in mind we were woken at 8am Saturday morning. The temperature in the room was unbearable and the small fan offered helped a little. There was also no hair dryer or glasses in the room. This day in age, even in a basis hotel, I feel aircon, hairdryer and glasses is a standard?
