Doing some sightseeing in Northern Ireland and spending a few nights in Derry/Londonderry. After tucking the family in for the night, I went in search of a local pub that was not overrun with tourists or young people. The Abercorn Bar fit the bill. This is a proper Irish pub, full of mature locals watching a soccer match, playing some type of table game and generally enjoying each others' company. There is bar seating for about 10 and about a dozen tables in the main bar area, with a side room with a small bar and an additional dozen tables. The locals were friendly. The bartender was professional. The beer was tasty. The prices were very reasonable. What more could you ask. If you find yourself in Derry and want a quiet, authentic local bar, you could do no better than Abercorn Bar. Highly recommend.
