What s fabulous stay. Special thanks to Masood and Keval for the wonderful service and upgrade for my 66th birthday. All of the team are really friendly and welcoming. Breakfast is very generous, offering both continental and buffet full English. So central and really worth staying here.

Stayed 5 nights and our room was nice, clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Location was great for us. As it was half way between the old city center and our daughter at Oxford Brooks University. The only critic we had was a funky smell in ?The Library? lounge, but that was not a deal breaker. The attached restaurant ?East Gate Brasserie? never had many people eating there, and with there poor reviews, we never ate there, so cannot comment on it either way.Walkability: Close to old city centre

Great location on the high street.Very near the hop on/hop off bus stop 10.Room was lovely. Good facilities/spacious.Lovely overlook to Magdalen College.Thank you for the complimentary upgrade. My twin bed dipped on one side but comfy. Lamp not bright enough on dressing table to do make-up & obviously not facing daylight. That was most annoying.Blackout curtains were most welcomed.Bathroom lovely. Rainshower was fabulous.Products mediocre.Staff on reception were very pleasant & helpful.South African man during breakfast was great & the other man at breakfast didn't speak.Kind of grunted & made you feel like he was inconvenienced!Breakfast was a let down.First morning - only apple juice. Asked about orange juice & was told only apple today. No other juice options. There was a bar downstairs for goodness sake! They took the cooked breakfast order personally because "the self service breakfast wasn't working".Had to ask for spoons on our table and in the large jar of marmalade!Plates were so small that once you put your toast on it, spooning your jam/marmalade/Nutella onto the plate meant you had to spoon said option onto your (unbuttered) toast as there was no room to pop on the side. Silly system. We went early for breakfast the next day & all cooked breakfast self service were there, as was orange juice. No bananas in the fruit bowl as there had been previously. My biggest gripe was that there were no pastries to be seen.My little Niece was very disappointed as she'd wanted a pain au chocolat that she'd seen the day before.I was told a large Chinese group had gone in early & eaten all the pastries. This is a hotel! How were there not other supplies out in reserve?!Never come across this before.Even in the USA, in a low budget motel once - the staff raced out to the local supermarket to replenish pastry supplies & that was just a continental breakfast served in reception!Running out of basic pastries does not mark this a 4? hotel!I had to then buy my Niece the 'missing' pain au chocolat down the road in a coffee shop after breakfast. Not good at all.

Rooms: Big TV no screen mirroring, no bath, windows open. Nice tea making gear, minimal towel rails.Nearby activities: Shops, restaurants, libraries, parks, collegesWalkability: Walk around to various colleges and chapels.Noteworthy details: Where Lewis met his wife Joy, next door to Tolkien's last uni rooms.

The room was very small and a little claustrophobic. Everything was cleaned to a high standard and the bed was comfortable. Parts of the hotel are tired and could do with some TLC, for example the stairwell and corridors. The hotel is well positioned near the centre of town.

The hotel is in a great location to walk to many of Oxford's colleges. Nearby are several restaurants, pubs, and cafes. We enjoyed a typical English buffet breakfast and the Valentine's Day three course dinner special. The front desk staff was helpful when we needed ground transportation to the train. I would stay here again.

I really do love this hotel. Great location. The entrance is on a side street, so it's discret and quiet. The staff is great. So friendly, professional and attentive! The only thing that stops me from giving this place a 5 star is because the walls are a bit thin. I can hear the conversation from guests next doors. I stayed at the new building in the back.

I was at this hotel a few months ago and the most unpleasant person was a operations manager of this hotel ,he was yelling so nasty that was shocked ..............

I was speaking at the Oxford Farming Conference just around the corner. The hotel was ideally positioned and I managed to get a parking space which was incredibly good luck and made my stay so easy and stress-free. The rooms are a little too hot (please turn the heating down!) but other than that, my stay was perfect. The staff are incredibly kind and helpful.

Located in the heart for Oxford University's many colleges and sights. Staff is friendly and very accommodating with the added benefit of a proper English Breakfast!

I was traveling with family and we needed 3 rooms. Independently of each other we all called to change our rooms? one looked like it had been slept in and the sheets not changed. The other bedroom had had black hairs on the sheet and duvet (?) and the shower flooded in the third room. Reception was good about changing rooms, but the room we got moved to had its own issues.I don?t know why people say the hotel is clean or comfortable. The carpets are old and stained and many of the walls are tatty and could do with fresh paint. (We kept shoes on in our bedroom, even after showering)On the positive side, it is in a great location and staff and very friendly.I won?t be staying here again.

Giving 1 star because I can?t leave less. The receptionist is very apologetic and is trying to make it right, he did his best?he gave us clean sheets. HOWEVER. My family and I are staying here and we?ve all had to change rooms. All THREE rooms! My husband and I are pretty laid back, we?ll deal with a lot but, our first room flooded from the shower - before I even had a chance to get in, and the second had so many hairs (many seemed pubic) in the bed we questioned if the sheets were even washed. My mom had the same issue with hairs, as did my uncle?but he also had what looked like blood stains. We won?t ever stay with mercure again, hopefully this one star will keep you from staying here too. This review is a more accurate reflection than what we saw while booking. Pay the extra to stay somewhere else, truly.

We glad we choose the Mercure Eastgate Hotel for our X mas break. We presently surprised with having live music and its nice to see that some staff were singing. We all had a good laugh and good time. Rooms were spacious and I could not find any fault.Service was immaculate and staff really helpful and all our requests taken care of. Hotel centrally located . Thank you for all the team and can't wait to return again.
