This Sainsbury's Local store is in a useful location on Shandwick Place, just off Princes Street in Edinburgh city centre. The selection is mixed, they have a great to-go food and drink section, which includes a Costa Express machine, however, the stock of essentials and groceries wasn't too good while being at the usual inflated convenience store pricing. The layout of the store was easy enough to follow, but due to the presence of security gates, you will need to go through the checkout area even if you don't buy anything, which can be a pain, especially if there's a big queue and the item you wanted to purchase is out of stock. There are a couple of hotels nearby, so this can be a great stop to get a couple of things to take back to your room, without having to travel far, but better alternatives for sure around the city. 3*

So the manager... a true horror of a woman. Rather then doing her job which is surely to serve the customer, instead stood around slagging off other members of staff, earwigging on private conversations between customers and looking to be honest a total shambles.\\nI did actually feel sorry for her as she was so sweaty and red when she assumed that I was buy alcohol for my ?underage daughter?. Who is fact over 21 !\\nNow, this is something I would never do, and to be honest if she had been polite I would respect her questioning, however rather than discuss it with me at the checkout, she became overwrought and incredibly rude. All she had to was to ask my daughter to show her ID and it would have been clarified But she decided to storm off in her nylon trousers. I feared sparks would fly from them.\\nStill at least when she arrived home she would have something to drone on about to her cat.

Genuinely some of the most dishonest staff I have ever come across anywhere. Always check they haven't charged you twice for one item and if you're ever cashing in winning scratch cards make sure you know exactly how much your winnings are and after you pay for the shopping \\\"always\\\" ask for your receipt. You may now notice that they don't always ask you if you want your receipt, some of them obviously have a cash back scam going on. Don't take my word for it, go check for yourself. Also, one or two of the staff could do with a shower before going in!

Never has anything in stock and has really bad customer to staff ratio. Consider walking a bit further to lidl

Just opposite Cityroomz, think they get tourists buying snacks/drinks and sandwiches. Great choice. Staff was friendly and helpful. Tried their bakery section, which seems prepared on the spot. Not prepacked. Surprised how good! Loved their crusty bun which Belgians will recognize as their Sunday 'pistolets". Really great. So the next Sunday treated me to crusty bun and also a 'pain au chocolat' (just like the real stuff in Paris!) and had breakfast in the hotel with a cup og hot chocolate! After days of full Scottish breakfast a nice alternative! :)

The staff in the shop are not really that friendly. I went in this morning. The assistant that served me was eating chewing gum. When on the shop floor no assistants should be eating. Not very friendly either.

I occasionally buy a newspaper in here and the store is clean and the staff are friendly. I think they could use some more staff on the tills as I've had to queue for longer than seems necessary. Has self service tills though if you want to use them.
