Great location if you want to be near key attractions in Scotland. It's a budget hotel, so nothing fancy.

The hotel is very well located and there are many restaurants and shops nearby. The check-in was very fast and about the room, you could tell that it was old. The shower was plastic and the paint was gone in some places. In general everything was clean except for these strange stains on the wall :

Very dirty hotel . The carpets in the room have stains on them. There is a strong rubbish and urine smell on the corridor leading to the rooms. Asked if the carpet could be hoovered as there was clearly food crumbs and some dirt was told they only hoover once a week. The list is endless just avoid this hotel if you can.

The best thing about it is the location. It could be better but it could also be worse. If you get it cheap, great, but it's not worth paying a lot. We have stayed 2 nights and generally good. But the cleanliness could be improved, the fact that it doesn't have free wifi doesn't seem right to me. You can hear noise from the street, there are hardly any plugs. On the other hand, the room is large, with its bathroom and everything.

Room was clean, bedding too BUT the issue was the revolting smell outside of the room next door. I was starting to wonder if it was rotten pipes or something more sinister from the level of that smell!!The door didn't lock from the inside and only seemed secure because it couldn't be opened from the outside due to the electronic lock, but if you have kids in the room I see a major issue with safety. The windows do not open due to fitted perspex screens preventing ventilation.

It was a very good location, right behind princes Street. We visited Mon 29-30th and it was a standard Travelodge so we can't complain. We did pay for a breakfast expecting it to be a sit down one but AFTER paying (and arriving) we were told it was a 'to-go' one. We cancelled it as I am gluten free and the breakfast consisted of: cornflakes, boxed milk, orange juice, pain-au-chocolat and a flapjack. That isn't worth the £5 when you can walk around the corner and go to a wetherspoons. When we first arrived there was a sign saying 'we will be back soon' and we waited for over an hour and no one was there. There was a large queue, including people who had paid extra for early check-in. I'm not sure what happened there but when the staff arrived they were friendly and helpful, even bringing us up an extra quilt on the night. On the morning the other staff were also great, very chatty and friendly.Overall, this Travelodge was basically what we expected and for the price we can't go wrong. But for the breakfasts I had to rate it lower because I had to make other arrangements (which is hard to do with allergies/intolerances).

This Travelodge is bang in the middle of everything ? a quick stroll to the Royal Mile and all the attractions. You've got pubs and restaurants galore, covering every budget.Getting in from the airport is a breeze with buses and trams stopping nearby.Checking in was a breeze, and our rooms on the first floor were surprisingly roomy compared to other Travelodges I've crashed at.The staff were awesome, super friendly, and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Thumbs up!Rooms: Our rooms on first floor were surprisingly roomy compared to other Travelodges I've crashed atNearby activities: Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Camera Obscura, St. GilesWalkability: Short 0.5 miles walking distance to Royal Mile and most of the attractions. There?s a bus stops right there if you wish to take a bus instead.Food & drinks: Chaophraya, Dishoom

Rooms very nice but had unfortunate experience. No power on so couldn't check in until later on. Second day power cut again and trapped in the lift. Staff managed to get me out. Hopefully will be refunded for stay.

The moment I stepped foot into that dreadful establishment, my heart sank and my hopes were dashed against the rocks of disappointment. Dear reader, let me tell you in no uncertain terms, it was the worst hotel my weary eyes had ever witnessed. There, I was met with an aura of absolute disgust, as if I had stumbled upon a forgotten realm of filth and squalor.Oh, the rooms! They were nothing short of a burden upon my soul. Dingy and forlorn, they exuded a sense of gloom that seeped into my very bones. And the temperature! Unbearably cold, biting at my skin like a cruel winter's embrace. Drafts howled through the halls, mocking any futile attempt at warmth. But that was not the worst of it, not by a long shot. The showers, dear reader, were veritable breeding grounds for mildew and decay. The stench of mold clung to every corner, assaulting my senses with each desperate breath. And, oh, the wretched scent that permeated the air! It was akin to the nauseating odor of cooked ramen noodles, an olfactory assault that plagued my restless nights, leaving no corner untouched by its wretched tendrils.Morning broke upon my weary form, yet its arrival brought no respite. No, instead I awoke to a twisted symphony of pain. My neck and back ached as if tortured by unseen demons, while a pounding headache threatened to split my skull in two. Even my nose betrayed me, as it ran incessantly, a constant reminder of the ordeal I had endured. No soul could endure such torment for another moment. Desperate, I embarked on a quest for refuge, searching for a sanctuary, a haven from this nightmare. And luck, dear reader, finally bestowed its grace upon me. The Locke, oh blessed haven, took me in as a lost and forsaken child. It was a place of wonders, a sanctuary worth every single penny of its higher expense. For within the warm embrace of The Locke, my spirit found solace. The rooms, resplendent and opulent, cradled me in comfort, erasing the memory of the torment I had suffered. With a mere flick of a switch, the biting cold transformed into a gentle caress of warmth that thawed my frozen soul.No trace of mildew dared to defile the sanctity of The Locke's showers. Instead, each droplet whispered of cleanliness and refinements, like a gentle breeze flowing through a field of fragrant flowers. And the air! Dear reader, it was pristine, untainted by the repugnant stench that haunted my previous abode. As I lay upon the lush embrace of my new haven, gratitude overwhelmed my being. The Locke, though more expensive, was a treasure beyond compare. Its blessings were worth every single precious penny, for it had rescued me from the depths of despair and delivered me unto a realm of tranquility and bliss.

Talk about a nightmare! The beds were stained and lumpy, and the pillows were hard. The cleanliness was horrendous, I couldn't even use the shower. The room was freezing, the heater was broken, and there weren't anymore blankets. Honestly, at times, I even thought it might have been a better to sleep on the street like a bum.
