Really lovely house to visit. You can walk right up to the ruin, and even access it sometimes (weekends I think?). It's a stunning and largely original building. The grounds are stunning, especially in autumn.

This is a gem of a place we visited it on our way to Edinburgh. Easily accessible with adequate parking.

Beautiful walk! Such a shame the cafe never reopened after covid!

Had a lovely walk about this gem today. Still amazes me how many lovely places there are just outside Edinburgh. Didn't know this place existed. Good old Google maps! It's free to walk about but it's a working farm so if you are walking your dog be respectful of that. Lovely place for walks.Car park is a short walk but the roads are good so wheelchair access is good.A must visit.

The weather was not great but we managed to have a walk around, we wanted to picnic but too windy etc

The first time we have been inside. I hope that they do something to better utilise this gem of a building.

A ruined stately home and beautiful grounds. The dogs loved it - Brideshead Revisited, eat your heart out! Remember to keep your dogs under control as there is a working farm next door....especially during lambing/ nesting season. You can have an amazing picnic in front of the mansion and channel your inner Bridgerton. However, please take a rubbish bag to keep the grounds clean afterwards. There are plenty of bins in the area.PS - The area isn't bbq friendly.

The café has been shut since 2020. Still a nice walk with interesting man-made features.

Love walking up here, shame the cafe is no longer open but we'll worth a walk and a picnic

Absolutely love this place. The ruins of Penicuik House. Was actually amazed when we could actually get in to the ruins and have a look around. Place is epic from the inside. Definitely well worth a visit. It's free entry to get in to the ruins

Really neat spot. A bit remote, so would only recommend if you have plenty of spare time, or if you?re a local and want to see something different

Lovely ruin of an old stately house that was destroyed in a fire, with extensive grounds good for walks
