Weird. We got an email on the morning of our stay to take payment, then another email to say the pub is closed indefinitely and the key will be under a dog bowl by the back door. 1 star for service because there wasn't a soul there! Some bits of food had been left out plus an urn for hot drinks. This was in a side room/conservatory....the main doors to the pub were chained up and padlocked. The impression is that of a business that has been shut down/ building repossessed by the bank or something and existing b&b bookings had to be honoured.....all a bit strange. The room was basic but comfortable.Rooms: Oddly decorated but adequate.Food & drinks: Breakfast consisted of bread, jam and fruit left in a fridge. There was some out of date milk for tea and coffee.

The George doesn?t look bad from the outside the pub itself isn?t very welcoming very cold. When we first opened the door to the room again you could feel the cold but after entering it was horrendous.I have never seen so much black mould grout missing everywhere on the walls and floors, when I closed the door to use the toilet I couldn?t believe the amount of dirt and dust. The room was called the georgie porgy I wouldn?t recommend stopping at this accommodation. It?s supposed to be continental breakfast, there wasn?t any water to put in the kettle to make a drink, there was a couple of single portion boxes of cereal some bread and milk in the fridge and a couple of cartons of orange juice.I would never recommend anyone stopping in this establishment ?

What an absolute embarrassment of a roast. They expect you to pay a premium restaurant prices for food that would be sub par if it was served in a school canteen. The beef was cooked to hell and back. There were four sad little soggy spuds. The veg was a pile of wet cabbage with a smattering of overcooked peas. The cauliflower cheese was undercooked and watery (for an extra four quid). They charge a quid for extra gravy and then give you barely a thimble full. This place used to do such a banger of a roast so that makes it all the more disappointing. Come on guys, you can do better

Comically bad lunch. Ordered and waited almost an hour for the staff to realise the order hadn?t gone to the kitchen as the printer had broken. Food came eventually but was not as described - fish finger sandwiches were actually battered fish between bread. I had intentionally not ordered the battered fish in the pub as this is always dense and heavy batter - and this is what I ended up with but in sandwich form. Really greasy, heavy batter and hardly any fish in a basic white bread sandwich. The pub did comp us a pint for the delay but for £36 this was a very bad VfM lunch.

Hi we had a meal here for a wake, for my late uncle Les. We had a nice corner all to ourselves and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was superb, my mum particulary liked the shperds pie. My burger was perfect. Many thanks to all the staff.Food & drinks: The food was very good, and recomended.

Disappointed! First visit was greeted with staff who could not be bothered and no background music. It felt like a funeral wake. Second visit several months later....still no background music (wake feel) I asked a member of staff why and they said the speakers are broken. It's been months since my last visit, so why have they not been fixed. The pub log burning glass is broken so the whole pub smells of smoke. I will not be spending any more money here. Its a shame because the garden is beautiful. It needs a shake up or a manager.

The food was excellent and great quality, also very well priced. Their hospitality skills need improving, not very welcoming and chaotic service

Visited for Sunday lunch with the family, I have to say it?s without doubt my favourite pub beef roast, everything is absolutely spot on, and the service is great! Thank you.

Very poor selection of meals available. What came was awful. Very disappointing meals. We were a group of three but all the meals were of very poor quality.Poor service.I asked for a sweet sherry but what came can only be described as a syrup, must have been kirsch. It was definitely not a sherry. Apparently that's all they had, they asked if I wanted ice in it! In sherry??I would suggest The George be avoided.

We had a lovely evening. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Drinks were reasonably priced and the decor was cosy, with a good atmosphere.

Christmas dinner.Awful food, Grizzly meat, half a tomato, half a mushroom, a few thin chips,no service

Poor service and extremely overpriced. Poorly trained and inexperienced staff disappear, leaving tables covered in dirty dishes. 400 gbp for a dinner for 4, no alcohol is absolutely ridiculous for less than average

We visited this place for Xmas lunch today with our family and daughter. We are absolutely devastated with how our Christmas has been ruined by the diabolical meal they served us. I?m mortified I trusted the reviews. It was absolutely disgraceful and to think they had the audacity to try and charge £90 per head is beyond me this place should have an inspection to see if this food is actually fit for consumption. I?ve had better meals out of a tin. Avoid like the plague.

Food was really tasty however the service and communication was really bad. There were three other tables in, and I had to keep going to the bar to request drinks, and when the drinks came to the table the waitress didn?t take the old glasses away!Feel the floor staff need some further training, 101 of hospitality- like, ?I?m sorry we don?t have that dish?, rather than-?we don?t have it, so do you want something else??When you spend £100 on a lunch, you expect decent service - sort it out @thegeorge! We would have spent more if we?d have been asked if we wanted wine with our meal, however we were not so drank the water (that we went to fetch). No tip left other than these comments, disappointed! Also, presentation of food Was a little lacking!

Christmas Day meal for 5. Terrible experience. With us having arrived at 1305, we eventually got our starter. Through no fault of the young girl serving us, who was at the mercy of the kitchen, the delivery of food was very slow and our main course arrived after an hour and 15 minutes! The food was dry and unpalatable. The dessert however was the only highlight. When you pay a premium price for a Christmas day meal you would expect so much more than this. It was nothing short of a rip off, and we will not be setting foot in this place again because of this. If you are not set up to deliver this service, don't offer it.
