A lovely idiosyncratic hotel in the heart of the town, complete with creaking boards and slightly uneven floors. We had a large room plus bathroom tucked away from any noise. Pleasant service. The plumbing, however, does need some attention!

Checked in 20 minutes early, welcoming receptionist and showed us to our room. Room was John Astret and it was at the top of the building, bed was comfortable, good selection of tea and coffee, bottle of still and sparkling water and some sweets were put on the bed. Bathroom was big but seemed too big, toilet made a rumbling noise after each flush. The tv was in a awkward position, if the person was lying on the left side of the bed they would have to move right over to the middle to see the whole screen. This was the last room available when we booked and I can see why, would of liked a better room. Location very good.

Check in was swift and easy. There?s no lifts so be aware of that. I was on the top floor (2nd) and there?s 5 flights to climb. Fine for me but thought I?d mention it. Building is very old and quirky, rambling, creaky and has its charms. My room was Jane Austen. It was a Jnr Suite so had a large lounge room, bedroom and bathroom. None of the floors are level and all creak! Bathroom was modern but the water pressure was very weak. The shower head doesn?t come far away from the wall enough so the water dribbles over the taps. I found it quite hard to wash, and it took a while to stabilise the temperature. Free amenities were nice and big thick towels. Even dressing gowns. Mattress felt old and worn out but was huge. My room had a quiet aspect whereas my colleague had a front facing room and had to move at 1am due to noise. There?s no in house restaurant for breakfast but we ate at Bill?s downstairs. It was fine but not great. My cutlery still had egg yolk on and my water glass had lipstick marks. 2 standard breakfast and a coffee each were £32. I would probably stay here again.

The minute you walk into this lovely old coaching inn, the welcome is warm and the initial good impression does not disappoint. The lady on reception could not have been more helpful and seemed to be there at all hours. The room was not at all tired and the bathroom super spacious and though lovely and old fashioned with what seemed like original features, had the modern shower and plumbing requirements I was a bit worried to see I had a room directly over the courtyard, which was lovely but I was concerned about the noise. I need not have bothered. I was only awoken only by a thoughtless guest but the hotel was otherwise really quiet 'Bills' downstairs was a bonus but didn't open early enough for me and my business meeting. Location is great, right on the high street, easy walking distance from the train station, near to restaurants and bars which comes to my only slight gripe. This lovely hotel does not have a bar except a far too dark and trendy one for me and my book after check inn. Never mind, went across the road and had a glass of wine on the patio of a lovely wine bar I will def be back next time I am in Guildford

Great hotel , little bit worn as it?s old . Extremely good location in the centre of Guildford . Did hear revellers outside in the street on a Monday night and did hear the bins being emptied as well . All in all did not affect our stay . Kirsty on reception was a gem , really kind and helpful with our bags. Thank you

I?ve read some quite negative reviews which don?t seem to recognise the provenance of The Angel which goes back into history and was an old coaching Inn established in the centre of town in The Middle Ages. Therefore it still has its timber-framework and has the remains of the original spiral staircase, so with that you can?t expect the specs of a modern Hotel Chain! It?s in a fantastic prime location in the centre of Guildford's Historic cobblestone High Street. It straddles two of the plots laid out in Saxon times; however at some time in the 15th century the properties were combined under one ownership. Our experience was incredible. We had the Bridal Suite which was fantastic: spacious with a Lounge area annexed to bedroom with a 4-Poster bed with a TV in each room! The person on Reception couldn?t have been more helpful. Being bang in the Centre of Guildford was brilliant, hardly having to walk far in direction for Shops and Restaurants. The wi-fi was great and we had a really comfortable nights sleep. We didn?t realise that part of The Angel Hotel is Bill?s Guildford restaurant which is open for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. In most Towns/Cities parking is challenging but there are a number of Car Parks around. So do your hike work to see what works best for you. It?s close the The Castle which is well worth a visit. We would thoroughly recommend.

Definitely a characterful place, quite a maze. Comfortable, clean room with terrible plumbing - or at least very low water pressure. They do not provide breakfast, but it's available independently in the bar attached to the hotel or the restaurant on the ground floor. i think pretty much all the rooms overlook the yard/ passage, so you get the noise associated with that and it's very central. The staff were friendly and competent.

We had a great stay. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We loved the style and layout of the hotel as soon as we walked in! The room was stunning, haven?t tried the restaurant connected but is definitely part of the plan for next time:) will definitely stay again!

I visited Courtyard on Sunday afternoon this week. The sales lady was absolutely wonderful, kind and extremely helpful. I purchased some Henry Christ Cashmere and will definitely go back and visit this store throughout the year. The clothing and choice is exceptional. Shame it?s quite far away but that won?t matter as I will gladly travel as rbis is the best boutique around.

Booked here as was dog friendly and aww location was great. Those are the two best things about it and for a ?luxury? room over £100 a night for a Friday night it definitely wasn?t luxury and felt budget so not £100. The room we had was a great size but dents in the wall, headboard half attached to the wall, carpet stained, sockets loose, taps broken in bathroom and constantly running water, cracked toilet cistern, loads of hair in the bath plug hole and water pressure of shower was poor. A consistent experience with all recent reviews so this is clearly a wider issue. It get that the hotel is very old and that charm is great but it feels like there is no pride in the experience although the receptionist was lovely and really welcoming

We booked a night away for our wedding anniversary and were upgraded to a luxury suite when we booked over the phone. However, when we arrived at our room the disappointment kicked in. Having last stayed at the hotel over 16 years ago it felt like the decor hadn't been touched since. The carpets looked tired and the bathroom was very disappointing. The loo chain had been damaged, the loo seat was very old and damaged, a grotty plastic toilet brush, a broken vanity mirror with no mirror and the towel shelf came off the wall in my hands nearly falling on my head! Our room was on a corridor just next to a function room which at 8pm was blaring out live music, so loud it felt like it was in the room. Take your earplugs as you'll also be woken up early by delivery trolleys in the alleyway outside. We went downstairs to speak to reception but couldn't be moved room as they were full. When we checked out in the morning we were told that a drunk couple had damaged the bathroom before us - but why hadn't the hotel fixed it?! The loo seat had been in that state for much longer than that and the towel shelf just hadn't been fitted properly. No excuses for charging guests for a second rate room. The outside balcony was dirty and had a cigarette butt on the window sill. The net curtain covering the balcony door was wrinkled and tired, not even a proper curtain. We were only offered an apology, no word of a partial refund or gesture to make up for it. So disappointing. Next time we'll try The Harbour Hotel. I feel sad for the hotel, obviously trying to bring in income by renting out their space to Bill's restaurant and a grotty live music venue. However, warn guests about the noise and invest in the upkeep of the hotel.

Lovely looking hotel and had a large well appointed room, however there is no on site parking nor any free parking nearby. We arrived at 5pm and could park for free outside until 8.00 the next morning, however we wanted to be able to go out for a couple of drinks that evening and not leave as early as 8. Consequently we asked about local parking but it turned out that that suggested by the very pleasant receptionist had a 30 min limit. It seemed that all car parks had an evening charge and it took us well over an hour to find what we thought was the best possible option. It was the Castle carpark. It cost £5.10 for the evening charge and up to 3 hours the next day and was only a short walk from the hotel. If we'd gone there directly then there would have been no problem. Be aware that the hotel has no restaurant or lift. There is a slightly strange cocktail bar which seems aimed at young people.

The hotel is in a great location, but that is the only positive about it. When taken to our room, at first glance it looked lovely, with a huge en-suite bathroom. However, the bathroom was filthy, with built up scum on the taps and shower head. The shower unit was also really dirty. The bedroom carpet hadn?t been hoovered along the edge for who knows how long, as the build up of dirt was horrific. The mattress on the bed was so soft it completely dipped in the middle!

We stayed here last weekend for an event - we had three rooms between a group of us. The exterior and main reception areas were full of character, true to the building's original purpose. However, we did feel the furniture in our room was slightly dated - in particular the headboard of our bed. We did like the amount of space we had, with a living area, dressing table, bedroom and bathroom - this is quite unusual. Our room was on the top floor, right at the end of a long corridor which made me hopeful that we would have a quiet night as no other guests had need to walk past our room, however, unfortunately we were woken up at 6:30 on the Saturday morning by the Bills staff next door dragging their outdoor furniture across the cobbles!! This is obviously not the hotel's fault, but nevertheless was a rude awakening - perhaps the hotel could discuss noise management with Bills (this wasn't an issue on the Sunday thankfully). The new cabaret bar was a nice element, though some of the songs were quite bold for an opening night!

Hotel generally OK did not sleep more than 2 hours per night due to traffic noise, shop security alarms going off and shop deliverys at 02:30 in the morning. Not viable to have rooms overlooking the main street. Bils downstairs good for breakfast.
