What an amazing place, really enjoyed the free guided tour, well worth a visit. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the building and the local area. Some great photos opportunities for tourists

It's a library. It's quiet. It's also amazing.

This is such an amazing place. The second largest private library in England. All ages benefit from the library, too. The staff are very passionate about their work. Bookbinding is a good option to learn a new skill and, at the same time, give back something special by binding books once you spend time training there. You need to be a member to join this voluntary role.

An incredible North Eastern institution. An excellent place for quiet study or reflection with a great selection of modern, and older books and curiosities.

I ambled by to see the blue plaque about Joseph Swan and the origins of the incandescent lightbulb. Being from Birmingham I appreciate industrial history. I wandered into the library. What a delight. Thank you to the librarian who gave me a history of the place and some bookmarks ?.

One of the Best libraries I have seen in UK. Lots of old books there and I love the round stairs up to 1st floor. Bookworms smell over there. Agree with somebody said that it is a gem in the city. My child got lots of great books there to borrow, many of the books are in different editions other than that located in public libraries.

Amazing library, I could have spent all day here.....very informative tour and the building next door was just as stunning. I will definitely be going back when I next come to Newcastle ?

Not entirely wheelchair accessible. They have a lift for the outdoor steps and a stair lift inside which is great but you'd need someone to carry your wheelchair up the inside stairs unless it's light enough for you to carry on your lap when on the chair lift.

Absolute must visit for its sheer size and history. Went to find some old maps and was surprised at the collection. Didn't even finish checking out all the available categories, let alone the books themselves. ?? Well-maintained and the staff were really helpful.

I've dedicated countless days to studying at the Lit & Phil Library. It stands as a rare haven of serenity for genuine focus amidst the city's hustle. The magnificent historic building, rich with history, only deepens the experience. Its presence in the city is a true blessing.
