This is a refuge for the vulnerable, a place of safety for all who dwell here. It is a big surprise of a place. You reading this could find yourself homeless, fortunes change, jobs can be lost. Private Landlords are quick to realise their assets for all sorts of reasons. Death in a family & offspring or siblings need to gain access to the value of a rental property. Anybody can become homeless the young can have irreconcilable family difficulties, people fall out with their life partners and temporary homelessness can and does happen. People can find their their way to this rather wonderful facility. For an endless number of reasons. To enter here is to find a place where people live together with difference. It is welcoming sensitive and capable. Swan Lodge staff are caring responsible and delicate to those who enter for the myriad of reasons that bring people to the door. It warms people through, provides hot water to bath or shower and feeds them. It is not a male only facility their are women in this building too. If you are wondering what is that place? and what does it do? Spend some time looking it up. The Salvation Army is a Christian Charity without the help of generous Caring members of the public it would not be possible to provide places like Swan Lodge. Swan Lodge is a rescue centre reaching out to those who find themselves in tragic, and difficult circumstances. This is a home. A great place to call home. A welcoming place, and a safe controlled space from which people can rebuild their lives. And they do.

When I first came to the salvation army swan lodge I had just came out of jail and was sleeping ruff down Chester-le-street river side I had no money to try and get somewhere to live so when I got a room I couldn't have been more grateful as I was going to get myself locked up again so I would have a roof over my head and food in my belly and the salvation army gave me that without being locked in a cell all day so I couldn't thank them enough for their help and support
