Great chips but a serious lack of carrier bags. The question of ?have you got any ketchup?? seemed to throw the member of staff but we managed to work through it. Would visit again but unlikely as we live 275 miles away.

It's a nice little cafe with a lovely seaside vibe. I went here on a Sunday with my partner and some family, two of us ordered the baguette melts and the others ordered a roast dinner and a hamburger. The food took almost an hour and a half to come out, we watched as everyone else, seated and takeaway orders received thier food before us. The food was nice but not worth an hour and a half's wait. If I go back I'll probably just get tea and a cake as they had a wide variety of tasty looking cakes!

Extremely Disappointed... Visited Wednesday, October 1, 2023, at 7.15 p.m. I want to say, that personally, I never find myself writing reviews for food establishments, but I feel that on this occasion, it?s warranted. My wife and I, have attended Hilary and Iain's Kitchen establishment for food and drink many times over a number of years. We have always been impressed with the quality of the food, its presentation, and never felt rushed on any occasion. We attended this evening on what was a quiet night, just ourselves and a anther couple who were leaving, having paid their bill. Entering the main door, the choice of seats was limited due to a couple of guitars and various music equipment on chairs on the first table at the front. The young man who was waitering was attentive and very pleasant; no problem there. The issues started with the music playing through the wall speakers, at such a volume that it was difficult to hold a conversation. The choice of depressing country and western music was an irritation, to say the least. After hearing continuous songs, one after another, of depressed cowboys bemoaning their relationships, I felt like I needed to call the Samaritans or slit my wrists. I had to ask the waiter to turn the volume down to a sensible level. He did agree that it was much too loud and did so willingly. Starters arrived and were excellent. Entering the establishment, a middle-aged, tracksuit-guitar-carrying man, who flitters back and forth into the kitchen (unhygienic, we thought) while we wait for our main course to arrive. The mains arrives: fishcakes for myself and pork dishes for my wife. The guitarist moves to the front of the venue and proceeds to take up residence, playing, or, should I say, strumming, the guitar very amateurishly and annoyingly. Now, the combination of depressed cowboys still complaining about their sad lives through the speakers, and our new support act made for a headache of complete irritation. Enter Iain, the owner and chef, direct from the kitchen. He was obviously feeling like he was missing out on auditioning for Glastonbury or for AC/DC. In shorts, and a well worked in T-shirt, he proceeds to pull out an electric guitar and plug it in to an amplifier, and decides to position himself on a chair in front of the main door entrance, so blocking any potential customers that may have wanted to venture in or complain about the music being played. The time is still early, at 7.50 p.m. We are now being serenaded by Mr. Acoustic and Mr. Electric in what appears to be a guitar lesson in front of us while we attempt to eat. FOOD - I will say that my fishcakes were lovely, but the pork was undercooked, as were the potatoes and vegetables, and the pork was certainly not of good quality this evening. The pork dish was not fully eaten for this reason. We were left with the impression that the pork dish was rushed into cooking to accommodate Iains guitar session. This evening was one of the worst we have had here. We just wanted to leave as quickly as we could due to the uncomfortable surroundings. If you are going to have a "so-called music evening?, or music lessons, don?t do it here in the restaurant. This is a very small eating establishment and is not set up for live music while you eat. Granted, as owners, you can do whatever you want in your own establishment, but this comes at the cost of losing customers. If you want to do this, then mention it on your advertising pages or social media, so people can stay away from live music while you eat. This cost us over £62.00 for food, drink, and live MUZAK. On leaving, we told Iain (the owner) we would never be back again. He didn?t appear to care. All good things come to an end, which is a shame, as this was once a nice, relaxing venue. 2/10.

Small area for dining in, though it does have tables outside.Well worth the wait for food to arrive as everything was cooked fresh, was well presented and hot.Staff very friendly and helpful. Will use this place again when visiting Ogmore By Sea.

As soon as we arrived we were asked if we would like drinks and food, take away or eat there, we said eat there, we were given the menu and we ordered our drinks which were 2 black coffees, 1 latte and a soft drink, then we ordered the food, asked about the drinks were told they were just going to do them, we waited over 25 minutes still no drinks arrived, one of the family went and asked how much longer would we have to wait to be told that they were just going to do them so we told them cancel the drinks and the food and we left, would certainly not recommend them.

Stopped in for lunch as we were walking along the beach. Bit of a trek from the actual beach itself but well worth it! The cheese & ham melt comes with a choice of white or brown bread, it also comes with salad and chips! The sandwich was HUGE and the ham/cheese was really packed in, overall it was delicious. We sat inside, there were tables outside but it was a bit hot - you can sit a table of 6, 2 x tables of 4 and a table of 2. So if it?s busy I?d imagine it can be tough to get a seat. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for some lunch down this way though!

As always, Hilary and Iain give a personal service. I asked beforehand if I could pick up a curry for my father to take home to him and specifically asked for a juicy one as my father is elderly. The beef vindaloo, my dad described as 'quality'. The beef apparently was very tender and it was all-in-all very tasty and a generous portion, and of course juicy! I went back to meet my friend at the restaurant. We had curries too. My friend had a chicken and I a vegetarian. They were scrummy and generous with poppadom, chips and rice!! The wine was good, as always! Background music was fab! Service good and friendly. A lovely evening out! Save's me going further afield to find a curry. Also many of the young staff who have worked here, I notice, have come along in confidence, in leaps and bounds. Keep up the good work H&I. We are blessed to have you in our village!

Four of us travelled for an evening and ordered different dishes. Only one of us enjoyed our meal. My food was incredibly salty. It was very quiet but the food took about 45 minutes to come out. On the bright side they came more or less together & everyone was happy with drinkies whilst they waited (except me as designated driver). I thought it was expensive. You can definitely get better food elsewhere for the prices. I almost didn't order food. The only reason I stayed and ate was so as not to tick off the rest of the group. Hilary (I assume) kept picking up and handling their dog. Carrying it back and forth through to the kitchen and back. I'd like to think she was washing her hands after every one of these many handlings but even if she was, she also was holding the dog against her apron so far too much risk of cross contamination. Two of the group are devoted dog lovers and not phased by a bit of dog hair in their dinner but I'm not a fan. Especially if I'm paying for it. I wouldn't go again.

We had a lovely evening at Hilary and Iain today. The food was amazing. I had chicken breast in apricot and white stilton sauce and Richard had main course calamari. Both meals were cooked well and very tasty. Nico and the other waiter were really attentive too. We will be back very soon. It was lovely meeting Trixie too.

Not a good experience unfortunately. Eventually ordered (waiting for the girl on the till to take order) a take away fish and chips. Was told it would take 30 mins. Bit long but we were planning on having a walk around so ok with that.Had a walk around and came back to get the order. Waited to be acknowledged maybe 5 mins. I then had to wait another 20 to 25 mins. When we got to eat the food the chips were nice but the fish was over greasy, with grease being the only real taste.I will not be ever coming back here. If you can't get fish and chips to go right then don't think I'd trust anything more complicated.
