Omg? seriously the best steak I have had in a long time.My wife and visited here for the first time on hearing other reviews. We both like a good steak and usually have the ribeye. We both have our steaks cooked differently where my wife has hers well done, no pink, and I have mine medium well. Both streaks were of a nice size and cooked to perfection. The steak comes with a choice of potatoes and sauces. Both with a decent size portion and tasted great. They easily lived up to the reviews that I heard and created the a lovely evening for my wife and I.Service was great and free parking just down the road.Thank You The Golden Lion

Very disappointed having not visited since new owners have taken over. Wanted a drink at 5.15 and were told all tables reserved although only 1 was occupied. We were told could have a table in the back corner of the back room off the public bar!! Over the years we have visited many times for early evening drinks and never been refused even though we would vacate after 30 mins. New owners please respond?

The food and service were both absolutely excellent. We will definitely be back. We came for Sunday lunch today and it was such good quality and cooked to perfection!! Worth every single penny, as a decent roast is hard to come by! When discussing the Sunday dinner here the only place we could compare it to being as good as, if not better was Pasture. The staff are so helpful. An absolute gem, the best Sunday dinner we have had out by far!

We were looking forward to visiting the Golden Lion, as it is now under new management. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. I ordered the Rib-Eye steak, which was expensive at £28. I asked for medium rare but it arrived very rare, possibly nearer to blue. I expect some fat on a rib-eye steak, but I would say that about half of the steak was entirely made of fat. The meat that was there was tough. No-one came to ask if the food was ok, and when we paid the bill I mentioned the poor quality but was not offered any compensation. Very poor, considering it is supposed to be a steak house that specialises in steak.

Understandably quiet for a Saturday evening, early january... not sure how this justifies an army of waiters all loitering? Food was lovely however, was over powered by the blonde manager constantly shouting at staff members which detracted from atmosphere.Draught beers not in working order, nor were there bottled replacements.Below average for something that has been hyped up. Novelty must have already worn off.

My husband and I went to the newly refurbished Golden Lion as we wanted to support local business. It?s a beautiful pub with a lot of character. When we arrived we saw that the pub had been painted a light cream colour inside, it looked fresh and lovely. There needs to be a sign to say ?please wait here to be seated? as we were just stood at the bar like lemons waiting to be seated and wasn?t helped when we went to the bar. Finally I walked around the corner and collared a waiter who then took us to a table. It was a small table which was fine for us, but very very close to the table next to us which had a large number of people. The table lay out in the upper restaurant section wasn?t great and you were made to feel very close to the tables next to you. The waitress took our drinks order and then came back with half of the drinks order. After around 30 minutes I asked again for some water and was then given it. Our drinks were only taken once and if you wanted any other drinks you were made to go to the bar instead of asked by the waiting staff. I thought this was quite poor as in a restaurant you hope to have your drinks brought to you. It wasn?t necessarily overly busy either so I?m not sure whether this is how the pub serves their drinks? We ordered calamari and burnt beef ends to start. It was tasty but the calamari was definitely not crispy enough. It was quite chewy but overall did taste lovely. My husband said the burnt beef ends were very tasty. The mains came and I ordered the ribeye steak and loaded fries, and my husband had the steak with seasoned fries. The dishes came out and were presented well, the steak was cooked perfectly (rare) and seasoned well with salt. The loaded fries however were inedible, truly disgusting unfortunately. They were extremely hard and the cheese was solid. The crispy chicken on top was hard and cold. It was obviously made some time before and maybe heated up but it just caused the whole dish to become very solid. I picked up one chip and the whole dish came with it. I did complain to the waitress and she seemed very put out but did remove the £8 from my bill. My husbands seasoned fries were unseasoned also. The saving grace was the beef dripping sauce which was tasty. The alcoholic drinks were great, they had a great variety and they tasted really nice. The service was extremely slow and we had to ask for our order to be taken, but overall everyone was fairly polite. The waiting staff do need more training as they were bringing out the dishes with their fingers inside the dishes touching the food. They were young lads and were polite but just need more training. It was an overall disappointment evening, which was made more disappointing for us as it was a very rare child free night. I would not eat there again but would have a drink there.

More than average but only just, steak was nice and to be honest cooked to perfection but im not sure about the choice of supplier, good food starts with good shopping and I'm afraid this is it case here. Onion rings were dreadful, very oily, and the pepper sauce was from a packet, im sure the owner or chef will say thats not true but it was very thin and not much flavour. Our starters were nice. Big thumbs up to the girls working that night, really busy and they were fantastic, i think this place should be good with a few changes. Fingers crossed for the future but i wouldn't go back in a rush

We went last night & enjoyed our meals, We had Fillet Steaks.Just a few tweaks and it'll be a great pub again. My suggestions are , Get A better range of Lagers, Make sure the heating is working, And make it more homley with a refurbishment. It's got great potential.

We ate there a few days ago. It was hit and miss. I am unsure if it was the fact the pub was busy, not that this should make a difference, but service was not the best. Our waitress was lovely but you could see she was struggling to cope. We had to ask multiple times for drinks and didn?t get the coffee we ordered. The food was good and dessert delicious so definitely worth a visit but, for us, it was a disappointment.

Great atmosphere... Cosy village pub. Believe there has been a recent change of owner/regime and a re-opening; it was all running fine... Great food and attentive (but not interfering)staff. Was a perfect meal to end a lovely trip to the RSPB Reserve.

Great atmosphere... Cosy village pub. Believe there has been a recent change of owner/regime and a re-opening; it was all running fine... Great food and attentive (but not interfering) staff. Was a perfect meal to end a lovely trip to the RSPB Reserve. I understand it is a grill/meat heavy menu - which is fine with me - but may want to consider a little more diversity in the longer run. Meanwhile though, will dine again the next time am out that way...
