Useful shop but they have an annoying habit of closing early for no reason.

Needs a better selection of magazines but there is usually an interesting book to buy.

Managed to nip in and get a charging cable for my phone (why is this one of the things you are dreadful at making, Apple?) and I'm glad they have electronics stuff at what used to just be a bookstore :-)

When I am in Penarth this is my first stop to get magazines which I cannot get in Ireland - logic problems! Small and a little cramped but they have all that is needed. Great book deals and stationary and the odd special deal also. Main bug bear here is that I get the money off vouchers but I am never here long enough to use them.

In general the WHSmith franchise seems to losing its allure as time goes by. Its stores are beginning to look tired and a little old fashioned. But they are still the best place for stationary and magazines on the high street. Unfortunately, this is the least lovely WHSmiths I've ever been into. It's tiny and cramped with little logic to its layout. It's so full that I don't envy the poor staff trying to keep things vaguely looking as tidy as possible. It must be a frustrating job. There are massive tall shelves that take up a lot of room in the store, further increasing the feeling of claustrophobia. Although they have a selection of books, their range is by no means as good as you'll find in Windsor Bookshop just across the road. This is a shop where they're got a little bit of everything, but not really enough of anything. Avoid unless you know exactly what you need.

I think this is one of the most compact branches of Smiths I've ever shopped in. Squeezed into the high street, wh Smiths sells a great range of stantionary items as well as books, papers and magazines. This branch has a particularly good range of greetings cards if you can manage to get round the very narrow aisles. The books section could frankly do with a little improvement in terms of catagorisation and its possible that too much stock is on display! Staff are lovely though and fairly helpful with any queries and of course there is a fab range of magazines.
